We have always used a suitcase stove and eaten out but i'm determined to cook more in the tent. Just after opinions on the best bit of kit or combination of kit for cooking the following... spaghetti bolognese, stew, chilli con carne, sauages, burgers, bacon. EHU (provided it can be used in france) or gas i don't mind but needs to be as compact as possible as we are running out of space in the car!
I'm looking at the outwell olida which is a dual burner 2x3kw stove running on EN417 (standard screw thread coleman type) cylinders.
Folds into a smallish unit. No big cylinders to carry and at 3kw around the same output as a UK domestic hob so you can get pots to the boil before a simmer.
Only issue you may have is availability of the cylinders in France so you may need to pack a few.
I'll also be getting an electic frying pan or wok to use on EHU so the stove will be mainly for rice, pasta etc. Doesn't actually take that much to boil with a lid on and sheltered from the wind.
Voltage is compatible into Europe. Europe a little lower, but not noticably when it comes to performance.
Thanks. Bothe reat replies! I love the idea of petrol for the 424 but the price of it is more than we were planning to pay.
Olida looks a good price and handy being smaller canisters. Only thing i'm thinking is whether there might be a next version up with a grill? As was thinking of buying a tappanyaki but if it had a rill i wouldn't bother.
I fell in love with the campingaz xcelerate 600 but it needs a 1.8kg cylinder :(
I use the Kampa Roastmaster for longer stays and a simple 2 burner + grill for shorter ones.
I also have an electric multipan (electric frypan) in 2 sizes, again the large one for when there are several of us and the small one for 1-2 of us. These are great and I can cook everything from bacon and eggs through to a curry, fajitas and so on

I would normally recommend a basic double hob but as you want to use it in France I believe they tend to offer lower amps so may not be able to use both hobs at once (we have managed by only having one on at a time as they retain heat).
If being compact is important you really can't go wrong with the coleman 424, if new price is a bit high search local selling pages for second hand we got ours from gumtree for £20!

I assume from the above, we are not travelling light.
I am not a fan of gas or electric (but many are) and use unpressurized meths or denatured alcohol (dirt cheap and available everywhere in Europe) cookers.
Solo, I use an ex military Swedish trangia, but for the bell tent I have bought 2nd hand, an Origo 2 burner. Very simple and safe. First came across them on a boat.....but they do come pricey, even 2 nd hand..........
