Technically speaking, I believe I'm right in saying they don't charge a "Non-Members Fee".
The non-members price is the standard price... but the members get a discount!
Clever eh?
The pricing is different now (and impossible to work out) but they always used to charge a Non Members per night fee on top of the normal member prices
I have however booked 7 nights at one of their sites tonight :) Roll on summer
As I understood it when I was a member, a non-member pays a pitch fee plus a fee per person whereas a member doesn't have to pay the pitch fee, just the person fee, so it is cheaper. Whether members pay less or non-members pay more is irrelevant.
I think when I was a member some years ago now, a solo camper with age concession, I was paying about £9 a night. However, I found I could camp at non-club sites for pretty much the same or only a pound or two more. So, assuming for example, I would pay £12 a night at a non-club site instead of £9 a night (£3 difference) I would have to camp at a club site on about 13 occasions to recover the £39 membership fee.
To put it another way...if I camp for 13 nights at a non-club site costing £12 a night I will pay a total of £156.
If I camp 13 nights at a club site costing £9 a night I will pay £117. Good eh? But wait a minute...I've had to pay a membership fee of £39 up front which makes...yup you've guessed it £156.
I found I couldn't camp at club sites for 13 nights because there weren't club sites at all the places I wanted to visit so I had to pay for non-club sites as well, so I was forking out even more money.
Then I lost a deposit at a club site because the weather turned bad at the last minute and I couldn't go, so when I added up the total camping costs for the year as a club member it worked out far more expensive than I would pay by simply using non-club sites and not having to pay a membership fee (or lose a non-refundable deposit).
