If it's marginal I'd rather try the rechargable as it's less hassle than making sure I've always got D batteries. As long as you can take the shade off as I only want to use it as a ceiling light

For non ehu, I use a headtorch...with a twist. I bought a case for my petzl which doubles up as a lantern. Bung the petzl in it and you can hang it where you want. Good light output as well depending on which petzl you use. I have a tikkina which is 150 lumens.

Mine has been excellent. It's also a warm light unlike so many. I travel fairly light so the fact that it's compact is great. I was also impressed at how quickly it recharged my phone. Great piece of kit though a bit pricey.
