I just got my new Corvette 7ac and haven't even unpacked it yet, since it's raining. I'm so exited!

I have a small concern though with the supplied pump with built-in pressure gauge.
The pump was delivered with the pressure gauge on the side, so I screwed it on, as I suppose I should. Then I connected the tube, put a nozzle on the tip and clogged it with my thumb just to test the pump. When I pump, the pressure gauge fluctuates a lot, and I'm wondering if this will be a problem once I try to pitch my tent.
Anyone with a working outwell pump that can do the same test and see if your pressure gauges needle fluctuates as well?

Hi,

I have a similar dual action pump for a Kampa tent.

When I test pitched, there is no clear pressure as any residual pressure in the gauge disappears almost instantly once you stop pumping as the tent ports have non return valves.

I found the best way was to pump slowly at the point you get near the required pressure, this keeps the pressure positive so you can read the gauge without the spikes.

Once you are pumping into the tube, the pressure reading is damped as long as you don't pump too furiously.

The Outwell pumps have changed for 2018, our tent last year had the dual action pump that blows air on the upstroke and the downstroke. The new high pressure pumps only blow on the downstroke. I would agree that the needle does bounce around quite a lot but it worked fine at blowing the tent up and was pretty quick on Saturday (15 mins for a Vermont 7SA), it seemed about the same time as the old dual action pump.
