One of the pop up tents from Decathlon? I wouldn’t want to carry the bulk and weight of an air beam or bell tent for two half nights.

I would stick with the hotel option, will save you time / hassle of erecting a tent and space in the car for a popup tent that isn't going to be used for the majority of your holiday.

I think some campsites don't allow arrivals after a certain time, to avoid disturbance; one I stay on in Wales doesn't allow arrivals after 8pm. Not sure about very early departures though; maybe they are more flexible close to ferries. That might affect your plans for camping. Argos catalogue has some cheap and cheerful single-skin pop-ups and others with double skin in bedroom for a bit more flexibility.

You might like to put up the ferry terminals involved as locals/regulars may be able to offer some specific knowledge.
I appreciate your viewpoint but have a think about a B&B for the early departure, especially. Many are used to this and if you get a good one, they'll leave out a continental breakfast for you. On the other hand, hotels are more amenable to very late arrivals. Do your own research (local community websites are often handier than some of the larger booking agencies) and always make contact personally, explaining the situation, and you'll find most folks can be very helpful, even recommending others if they can't help you.
This from someone who lives on a Scottish island with three ferry services and even then you can get stuck!!
