We have a four drawer plastic set and do exactly what you say, lift it straight out of the trailer into the tent. We leave everything in it when it's stored in the loft. Top drawer is plates, cops and glasses, second drawer collapsible bowls, sieve, etc and the bottom two have all our vmcamping essentials, matches, playing cards, clingons, foil, bbq tolls, candles, etc. Works very well for us.
