We are in a tent with no EHU.
We have always used a coolbox (Colemans) successfully. We shop at a supermarket on our way back from wherever we have been visiting that day, so our food is always supermarket cold when bought.
We buy a bag of ice cubes and put these on top of the food/drinks. Our beer and wine are chilled down, and our yoogurts etc are always still cool the following morning at breakafast time.
This won't help the OP who has bought a fridge, but we don't have room in the car for a fridge plus camping gear, so this solution might be of interest to others in our situation.
