We are off on holiday tomorrow to Norfolk and I'm concerned about pitching in this heat! Hopefully being near the Coast it will be cooler. I'm thinking that perhaps just get the tent up and sort out my "interior" later when it is cooler? I have looked at the forecast and its saying thundery showers afternoon onwards ... so really just need to get the tent up asap I guess.

Any hints or tips ....

Lots of cold drinks & take a plant water mister (prefixed with cold water) a light spray to the back of the legs, bliss...

Personally, I swear by my Tilley sunhat, keeps the sun off nicely. Arrive early!

Good luck & enjoy the weather, in 6 months time, we’ll all be shivering & reminiscing about the weather.

Try and split it into seperate jobs. Complete one section then have a cold drink in the shade between each job. Anything that can be done inside leave till later when the heat has gone out of the day. But knowing the fickleness of british weather you will probably end up rushing to get it done before a thunderstorm lands!

First and foremost, if you can, find a pitch that is likely to have some shade during the hottest part of the day but not right underneath trees. Failing that, shade in the mornings is better than shade in the evenings because it will be cooler in the evenings anyway and you don't start the day hot and irritable.

Contrary to popular belief in weather like this it can be beneficial to pitch the tent front on to the breeze so you can get some air moving inside.

Take your time pitching and as you have said, sort the interior out in the evening when it will be cooler. That is the best time to inflate airbeds anyway if you use them.

Drink lots of water, not alcohol, and as suggested, take breaks and stand in the shade for awhile to cool off.

I usually stay home in temperatures like we are having although I have had a couple of pretty hot camping trips this year. This heat is too much for me nowadays.

We’ve been to this site before and there are no pitches with shade unfortunately.

Took a long time to get our stuff together today ... Just too hot. Finished up this evening and hubby packing the car now. Hope to get away early before it gets too hot.

Well, best of luck. Hopefully the weather will be cooler over the next few days. We have been promised thunderstorms since about 9.00pm last night and light rain this morning but not a drop to be seen.

Golfing brollies are handy for some shade if tied to the back of a chair...let's hope the sun only shines on the righteous

Yep, we only go camping in the South of France during June/July, so have only ever experienced pitching the tent in blazing hot sun.

Just a case of making sure that the fridge in the car is full of bottled water along with a few beers.

Wet towel wrapped around head also helps, although it was not hot enough for that this year, so just wore a baseball hat, although I am now on the look out for one of those that has a flap at the back to also protect the neck.

I would say just take your time, the first day of arrival for us is pretty much all used for setting up, with plenty of breaks in between.

Although we do have a stupid amount of kit, as we are there for a fortnight or more.

Good luck to the OP, have fun.

a few weeks ago we took our time. peg four corners, inflate, sit down drink beer. Peg bit more of tent and ventilation straps, sit down have another beer. Set up interior, sit down have another beer, stay in that position! thats generally how it should be done in the heat.

I guess after a few more sit downs and beers you didn't give a rats anyway
