Hi all
Does anyone else think it's wrong for campsites to charge extra to use a gazebo ???
After all you have already paid to pitch your tent .
Tbh I usually camp with a small tent and a tarp but have just bought a pop up gazebo for ease of use
But I looked at a site the other day which charged
Per person then extra for a car extra for a gazebo extra for showers all in all it worked out at £19 per night for 1 person
To expensive
I'd be interested in your thoughts
Regards
Simon
If they charged you £19 but with free showers, free extra car, free gazebo etc; would you be complaining then? Yes, for one person that is expensive and looks worse when it is broken down into individual items.
With regards to pitch fees, I agree that if it fits on the pitch you shouldn't be charged extra although one has to be very careful with regards to gazebos in that they can and do take off in the wind and cause damage to other units...charging for them isn't going to prevent that but may deter people from using them. My personal opinion is they shouldn't be allowed for safety reasons.
If something fits on your pitch and incurs no extra cost then it should be in your pitch fees. Dogs should incur a charge for disposal of food waste, faeces and, if they have it, dog walks so should be paid for.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.
The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
I think a poorly anchored gazebo can cause a lot more damage than a runaway tarp; maybe that is a consideration and risk is being taken into account. For every ten people who secure them properly, there's probably one who thinks the wind won't get up then is surprised when the thing takes off at a gallop and puts a hole in someone else's tent...
Personally having been downwind of a gazebo on a windy night I think they shouldn't be allowed at all. It hit the wee tent with my wife and youngest inside, broke a tent pole and went on to hit a neighbours car. Lucky nobody was hurt.
Anyone putting a gazebo up should have a long think.

How a site chooses to make up the pitch fees is up to them but it's up to you as the customer to decide whether to stay there or not.
It's the total charge which is important. It seems reasonable to me that a single person with a little tiny tent and no car or dog etc should be able to pay a lower fee than someone with a tent, gazebo, dog, electric etc.
