Bob I am quite surprised by that video...not as much as those that camp in canvas though.

That was indeed shocking - I always thought the Cabanon would be less flammable than our polyester tents... it seems not. My ghast is well and truly flabbered.

Always a good time to show videos of that ilk, as a timely reminder to us all... which is why I deliberately and consciously included the line "whilst all of us share the same risks".
When it comes to tent fires, none of us are truly safer than others. We all need to get the hell out of there, not sat around admiring the fact ours is taking a few seconds longer to combust!

Thanks for posting.

Waste of time, go to a reputable site you'll he fine - not something I've ever heard being an issue outside dodgy music festivals!

I am honestly baffled by everyone here, say something WAS stolen from your tent, what do you think the insurers are going to ask? - Was it locked. Might as well not lock the door at home coz people can just smash a window of they really want to get in!

I have heard too many stories about people going into other tents to leave it unlocked when I'm away from the site.

How many are insured? For those that are how many insurers would cover valuables in a tent, even with a padlock?

If camping overseas your travel insurance should cover you for theft from a tent.

Was told this story on Saturday while at a pub stop on a walk by someone who was there.

A family had finished their camp and had packed all their stuff and put it in the boot of their saloon car. They then started to take down the tent.
Unfortunately their baby tried to escape, crawling away at high speed, so they strapped the baby in the baby seat in the back of the car. The baby then started to cry and since all the toys were packed away in the boot of the car they gave him a bunch of keys to play with.
Unfortunately the baby discovered the clicker button on the main car key and locked all the car doors.
Fortunately the boot lid had been open when the car had locked down, so they unloaded all the stuff in the boot, removed one of the car radio speakers in the rear parcel shelf and got their 6 year old to climb into the boot to talk to the baby through the 3" hole in the parcel shelf to click the unlock button on the car key.
Unfortunately a sudden gust of wind blew the boot lid down with a bang, locking it and scaring the baby so much that he dropped the car keys into the footwell. As the baby was strapped into the baby seat he couldn't reach the keys.
The father then decided to call the AA, he explained that he had a baby locked in the car and a 6 year old trapped in the boot, there was a silence in which the operator said something to which the father replied "Don't ask!"

Amazed the adults didn't break a window to gain access to the car....What's the cost of a window compared to the life of a child ?

From my own limited experience and understanding... and even more limited "knowledge"... with regards to insurance, not many insurances that are "included", be that with your home/household insurance or travel insurance etc, will cover you for theft of items from your tent whilst on a camp site... and certainly not whilst you are away from your tent, which let's face it, is the most likely time anything is liable to go missing!

Check the small print folks... we pay a tad over £100pa to get the camping-specific cover we want... which does include theft/damage etc, and does allow for the incident to take place whilst we are out and about, miles away from the tent... and even then, any stolen items would need to be stolen from behind a closed/zipped door. Anything left in an open canopy/under a tarp etc. wouldn't be covered.

I hasten to add, that's the theory... we have yet to make a claim, thankfully!

I would hesitate before throwing a brick at a car window knowing there to be a baby inside.
