Hi we have decided to buy a tent for weekends away ( no kids to worry about now so free to just up and go). I would like advice and recommendations on airbeds. I have looked the deep airbeds but the reviews aren't that good? Any thoughts? Many thanks

I have found a properly inflated airbed will give a good nights sleep, but they are prone to puncturing and that until repaired is that.A ruined trip.
I MUCH prefer, though, a SIM. Depending on my style of camping, determines the thickness etc., but these insulate well, are available in different thickness', and sizes, are tough (good ones), don't wreck your trip if punctured....
Have a look at Thermarest and Multimat……?

You're welcome
The SIMS will be a lot thinner than an airbed, but more insulative.
If you want more height off the ground, these can be put on campbeds or whatever.
Multimat are excellent quality and tend to be a bit cheaper than Thermarest.

As a base camp type mat, as I suspect may be more what you are looking for?.... the 50XxL may fit the bill. It is what I now use after being recommended by someone else...…and I too would happily recommend them.

At the other end of the scale are SIMS by TRAIL. These are lightweight, incredibly cheap and just as comfortable if properly inflated. TRAIL mats are narrow and short, and do not inflate on their own, without help, as well as the likes of THermarest or Multimat.
I have slept well on these too...….

Personally bought an airbed from Decathlon - found it really comfy. I've never slept on a SIM (only just started camping) so can't compare - but for me it was really comfy. Air Seconds or something it was called - £40 for a double

Aerobeds are really comfy - good enough to use as a guestbed at home. The wife and I use a king sized one and the kids get cheapo Millets ones

We now have a trailer tent so have almost proper beds, as it were. When we were in a tent, though, I really struggled. I'm about 16 stone and Mrs Bede is somewhat lighter. If we had an airbed, I'd be feeling each piece of gravel under it and she'd be several feet in the air. Neither of us got any sleep.

We then discovered inflatable rollmats. I'm sorry but I don't know the actual name. They're green and they only inflate to about 1cm thickness but they really are surprisingly comfortable.

I'd go with them. And if I can find out what they're actually called then I'll return.

As someone who swore by canvas airbed on top of a camp bed, I am now a very happy SIM convert. We've just had our first trip using our new 10cm Outwell Dreamcatchers. I found them so comfy and particularly warmer than the airbed.

We paid £49.99 each for ours, worth every penny!

Having googled, it would seem that I'm talking about a SIM too. Our oldest two sleep on them in pods under our beds and say they're as comfortable as a proper mattress - and they're not known for being diplomatic!
