Hi can anybody advise as to pitch size for the kalahari 8 please. A lot of sites with electric have standard 6m x 6m pitch but the kalahari would be too big for this size?? What size do people look for for pitching please. Seems we can go anywhere without electric as pitch sizes are not limited which is fine for a weekend but would like electric if going for longer. Any help much appreciated thank you

you would need 9 x 5 meters to pitch that tent, I would sugest you use sites that provide ehu but don't limit the pitches on the size of the tent as they are normally well outdated in terms of the size required, or they are trying to get you to book 2 adjasent pitches

Thank you. We are finding it difficult to find sites that cater for that size. Because if health and safety they are limited to 6x6. Only found Vauxhall holiday park in by yarmouth who do ehu pitches 9 x 9m standard.

Totally agree with Marg6 above.

With these dimensions...

Plus at least 1m all round (each side/each end) for guys (and preferably 1.5m all round!), you'd need a minimum of 9.1m x 5.05m (preferably 10 x 6)... and that doesn't leave room for car/trailer/outdoor seating/kids bikes etc.

This size tent is not out of the ordinary by today's standards, so I too would suggest the sites you are looking at are out of date!

Dare I say, you may be better off looking for a camp site, as opposed to a holiday park?
Many may restrict the width of the pitch (due to having neighbours next door, of course) but not the length. Look for sites that pitch around the perimeter of the camping field and/or unmarked pitches.

Something like this... but we're all in one family group, so deliberately set up a little closer than normal to each other. Normally you'd have enough space for a car and then a comfortable gap, between each set up...

In fairness, our tent & caravan to the right are on EHU pitches, the 2 tents to the left are not, but out of shot, to the right of the pic, the electric pitches continue along the perimeter. There are no pitch markers/boundaries, although some do need a good 25m of cable, to reach the nearest electric post.

Chances are, the site will still need to ask what size you are, but that is so they can make allowances, and decide where to put you/others, rather than say you are too big!

Good luck... they are out there! :-)

PS:
A phone call is never a bad idea... discuss your requirements, and see if they can accommodate you. So much easier/more pleasant than "robotic" websites!

WRONG!!
... Because of health and safety, they have to leave a specific gap between camping units (usually 6m, depending on local authorities/licences etc).

It is purely down to the NUMBER OF PITCHES they have on the field, that limits the pitch size!
Anything else is an excuse!

Think about it!

I have called sites we are interested in and we would prefer a campsite as opposed to a holiday park but this Is where we have trouble. Everyone will accommodate us if we don't want electric as pitch size is not restricted but if we go for longer than a,weekend and take grandchildren then I would like electric if possible. And yes the kalahari seems a popular tent along with a lot of others 6-8berth so why are these sites not updating but penalizing us by making us book a double pitch which I refuse to do. Thank you all for replies

lloyds12 - which sites are you talking about? do they have caravans? because if they do they are talking complete rubbish! I don't know of any caravan with an awning that would fit into a pitch that size, the average caravan takes a pitch of 9 meters wide and 7 meters long,(caravan 2.5 wide + awning 2.5 and then the car parked at the side 2.5 leaving only 1.5 between the neighbours car and your awning so not ideal!) I know mine certainly wouldn't fit onto that size without the awning on it! it might be a good idea to mention to us what sites your talking about then a. we can recommend something suitable without saying the ones you have looked at b. it would help others to avoid such sites

I would think that most CS sites would be able to fit you in with ehu. Quite a few have showers and toilets and tend to be a lot cheaper than the big sites.

Thank you.we have looked at some in Norfolk and standard grass pitch is 6 x 6m. You can have hardstanding which they state for caravans but have never camped on hard before. Any sites in Norfolk or Essex that people can recommend would be much appreciated.

Have you looked at camping & caravan clubsites - can be expensive but they do jumbo pitches which would be big enough
