I was wondering if there is anyone on here who is living in a tent on a campsite full-time?
Or if anybody has some information regarding living in a tent for few months.
Is it doable? Do campsites allow it to stay for an extended period in a tent on a pitch?
I am really keen on trying it out for 3-6 months from january.
I believe there is a limit of 21 or 28 days stay on a camp site (certainly a booking limit imposed by club sites!) which is down to local authority licencing of the site. I believe it's to prevent 'permanent' residency.
Basically you need to move on after 21/28 days, but nothing stopping you coming back after vacating for one night (if the site will accept you).
Not sure every site enforces that to the letter, had friends who lived in a tent for couple of months when house purchase fell through after they vacated rented property!
Not sure they would recommend it though, as much as they (still!) enjoy camping, it has it's shortcomings as a longer term way of life!
Camping for more than a couple of weeks in one spot will start to kill the grass.
In winter it's going to rain, a lot, and the entrance to your tent will become a quagmire. You'll need to lay down duckboards or get some old pallets to stand on.
If you lack the discipline to take your boots off before you enter the tent all your bedding and spare clothes will be covered in mud.
Your boots will be wet when you take them off at night and will still be wet when you put them on in the morning, all your socks will be wet and hanging up somewhere in the tent. You'll be risking athlete's foot or even trench foot.
Between January and May forget about cooking on butane gas, you'll have to get a propane stove when it's cold.
Think heavy canvas military style tent, your going to need a tent you can stand up in but which won't get blown away.
I think there is or was a person living in a tent in the Wyre Forest area. Didn't someone camp on a round about in Birmingham a few years ago. Only campsites that restrict you to 21 or 28 days are CMC sites. We have never had an issue on any commercial campsites, but we were in a caravan.
Yes, I know that you have to leave for a night or 2 each month.
I am planning to rent a pitch on a campsite with electric hook up and don't intend to go wild camping nor to camp on a roundabout 😅
So far only 1 campsite said it's doable, but would need to move the tent every week.
Which isn't a big deals since most of my stuff will be in storage and only wanting to keep the essentials with me so I could possibly pull the tent to a different location every now and then.
Yes, several have asked about it here, or do so on other fora.
If the site will allow you to raise the tent off the ground, perpaps on a platform out of pallets, then a footprint sheet over this?
This will make life a lot easier and may save moving pitch so frequently. Your presence could be viewed as "security" for the landowner?
Are you using a plastic or cotton/polycotton tent? Ventilation and warmth are going to be two of your main considerations, and managing those will be dependant on tent, stove perhaps, sleeping bag and "bed " arrangements, and so forth... Definitely do able.

It's not just CMC sites, CCC say the same, and I've read it in local authority regs for camp sites. It applies to all regulated sites. Obviously wild/illegal camping is a different matter..!
"All UK campsites that are designated for touring and leisure use in their planning permission are limited to a maximum 28-day stay, so these rules apply to Club Sites too. If you wish to stay longer you must vacate the pitch for at least one night..."
That doesn't mean camp sites themselves don't break the rules though ....!

We lived in our caravan permanently for 2 1/2 years. We would stay on one site for 10 months and then move onto another site for the winter months as it had water and waste water hookups then back to the original site.

On 'non camping licenced' private ground, generally local authorities restrict camping to '28 days in any calendar year'. There are a host of rules and regs that may come into play to permit or limit camping - it's bureaucratic to say the least! It's certainly not a free for all to do as you please even if you own the land. That 28 days is total use of land, not just 28 days duration for any individual stay! It's intended to allow 'pop-up' events, without creating unlicensed permanent camp sites.
Good pal of mine has a few spare acres out back of his pub and has looked into the pros and cons in some detail, with a view to potentially opening a camp site, and to implications of allowing friends/family to pitch there to attend various events held at the pub.
