Very sad to hear your problems. Even with your problems you should contact the shop or their head office and depending on what they say then contact Berghaus.
I would not suggest try to fix it as, if you find any other issues, you'd have invalidated your guarantee.
I would suggest that you tell them you bought the tent based on reputation and quality and as such in good faith you additionally bought the add-ons from other sellers as and such you want them to refund you for the tent and pay for the total cost of the add-ons. If wanted a lawyer involved (which is overkill of course) that is what you'd get back. You could also ask whether the eBay sellers could take them back and explain your reasons; the shop where you bought the tent is likely to ask that. If you can get the eBay refunds, and incur delivery costs then get the shop or Berghaus to pay for those instead. Stay calm and peaceful and get the person you are speaking to on your side.
Alternatively tell them they have to fix it thus keeping your guarantee in tact. Also, doing it yourself could make it incredibly hard to sell on.
In short, I would suggest deeply exploring all avenues now and exhaust them before doing anything yourself at least that way if the tape does not work after a few trips (though it should I suspect) then you'd not be lying there in the wet thinking that you should have done something differently.
Good luck.
Thanks and I completely agree. I really don’t want to invalidate the warranty although it doesn’t seem that there is one really!!!
I really feel I have explored all the options without actually sending myself mad! I have escalated the complaint at Millets and they say they are happy to refund. (To be fair to them that’s all they need to do!) And I’ve spoken to 15 different personnel - none of which are ‘allowed’ to follow through after that contact. So you call back up and have to start from scratch!
I’ve contacted Berghaus, who say that because the item is Blacks exclusive, all aftercare is dealt with by them and won’t get involved.
I’ve contacted every tent repair place within 100 miles and some further away for quotes and help. All are inundated with repairs and cannot get the tent back to us in time for our holiday.
I think I’ve spent 20 hours in total trying to sort it so far and so if the repair doesn’t work and I wake up in a puddle I’ll know I’ve done everything, even if still totally peeved.
You could use a tarp as an additional groundsheet to protect the tent's groundsheet after your DIY repair.
Using a tarp as an additional groundsheet for added protection is highly recommended under normal circumstances.

If you use tenacious tape round the ends, it you leave them square they are more likely to peel
It has never crossed my mind to do that, makes sense, and thanks!
