We booked an electric pitch for tent camping with the camping and caravan club.
Email yesterday to say that with one week to go that the booking was cancelled due to lack of staff. They are closing several sites.
Would have been happy with alternative bookings in area, but we're now about 40mins further away, non electric, not the nicest site for us. If we hadn't booked all days out in advance due to covid restrictions we would have been happy to relocate almost anywhere.
To be fair to them they did give us a massive discount, but it's just not the site we wanted. I feel its pretty poor to have a lack of staff when they could foresee its going to be the busiest season ever (obviously if it was due to wardens getting covid or flooding etc i would be completely sympathetic), plus they obviously couldn't replace our booking like for like.
So i guess I'm just venting, and perhaps should just be grateful for a booking at all, but its been a few niggling issues for a few years dealing with the club and im umming and arring about renewing our membership next time.

As for not having enough staff, not planning in advance, etc. etc., the same could be said for other industries such as those in hospitality.
I suspect those affected by the pandemic who could find alternative and/or more stable employments would have done so, and some may not wish to return to their previous jobs.
If it had happened to me, I would be miffed too; however, I would be grateful that the holiday would not be cancelled altogether by being offered another site with a generous discount.

Did you miss the bit of the news about the "Pingdemic" with lots of business having staff shortages because of the numbers of staff having to self-isolate? Here's one example https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-57874404
