Hi all,
I’m camping with the family in my new Vango Valencia airbeam. It’s been a very calm few days so far with no tent issues. Last night the wind picked up and although the tent isn’t moving, the canvas on the roof is flapping like crazy all night. I’m just wondering is that normal?

The guy ropes are set to their shortest as when I inflated the tent there wasn’t a breeze and I could park alongside easier. The outer storm straps are set shortest too. My airbeams are set to 5psi instead of the 6-8 recommendation because of the intense heat and risk of them bursting. There’s no movement in the beams themselves. Maybe I just didn’t peg it out tightly enough on day 1? Does the length setting on the guys and outer straps matter too much?

I’d appreciate any tips to quiten things down.
Thanks!

Not familiar with the tent, but my own opinion is that you should always guy out as long as possible. More "Ideal world" than critical, but it does help pull the tent out as much as down!
It does sound like that's all it is... longer and/or tighter guys should show an improvement.
I have been accused of guying out too tightly, but personally I'm happy to ignore such accusations!

Can't comment on the psi, as not experienced with the lower pressure tubes.

Best o' luck.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the heat and air beam pressure, it used to bother me until I camped a few times in France with 40c heat and never had any issues.

There was a chart I posted on here a couple of years ago that showed the impact of air temp on beam pressure, if I recall correctly it could rise something like 2psi max but the beams are normally tested to 20psi so it was a long way inside tolerance of what the tent and beams can handle.

The search function on this site doesn’t work, I had to use a Google search to find it!

Three particular points, yes, as suggested, longer/wider spaced guys give better stability. Being a 'new' tent, no doubt after a day or so it has suffered a little 'relaxing' of it's fabric/structure in first use, so it may benefit from being 'tweaked' by adjusting and re-pegging base anchor points and tightening guy ropes. And at night as the temp drops the air beam pressure will also drop, it may be just a bit too low (as it's already under inflated!) for ideal stability, allowing slack to develop in panels.

A certain amount of movement of fabric panels is pretty normal in my experience, but there should not be sufficient slack that they 'flap' excessively. Sometimes easier said than done to achieve that though, if the pitch induces a bit of 'twist' to the overall tent, it's sometimes impossible to get truly taught panels.

Different tents have different quirks, not familiar with you particular tent, but I've a couple of poled tunnel tents of similar size/style and they only 'flap' in excessive winds when the whole tent flexes and moves.

I'd certainly inflate to recommended pressure in the warmer part of the day, so that in the cooler nights, it's not too underinflated. Generally not necessary to adjust air beam pressure once initially set to correct pressure, unless it has blow off valves which if activated may leave it a little under inflated in the cool of the night.

Good luck.

Thank you for all the helpful posts! I’ll adjust those airbeams and bring them up in psi a little and widen the guys.

The guys should always follow the seams and the shape of the tent. In other words they should be holding it in shape directly.

Might sound daft this but close the front door flap, tighten the guy ropes in the warmest part of the day when the fabric is at it`s loosest and it should tighten up naturally, when it cools down the fabric should tighten.
