Having owned 3 motorhomes over the last 10 years have gone back to tenting.
Enjoyed my motorhomes but was finding it more difficult to visit small villages due to vehicle size and more and more wild camping restrictions taking away wilding locations. I looked at Karsten tents many years ago and apart from the price was impressed with quality and ease of erection so 3 weeks ago visited the camping travel store and ordered a 260 pod, comfort awning, front wall, rain awning, rain awning connector and a bath tub groundsheet for the comfort awning and front wall. Also on James advise having extra windows and mesh fitted to door and windows.
Being a widower I travel alone with my dog so the 260 should be more than large enough. Unfortunately there is a 16 week lead time so late June delivery.
So presently I am ordering all the other kit I will need, Kampa Sim, Rab rectangular sleeping bag, Cadac hob, pots, pans, tables etc, etc.
Cannot wait, fingers crossed tent delivery is quicker than 16 weeks.

I enjoyed my camping trips from childhood to a MH in 2003, but I’m not sure I could get up off the floor these days: a beached whale comes to mind.

I have gone to the dark side and got a PVC last year, as it took too much time and efforts to put a tent up on my own.

I do miss the smell of cotton canvas though.

I may go back to a pvc in the future. Many benefits versus an A or C class, access to out of the way places, can be used as everyday vehicle and they don’t leak in like my 2 C class motorhomes did come to mind.

I have gone down the Karsten route for quality and ease of putting it up.

I thought about a Karsten, however, I would still have difficulties lifting it in and out of the car etc...

That outfit sounds impressive,and not at all basic from where I'm standing, but compared to a motorhome, maybe! Have fun with it. I'm looking forward to getting out in my tent again, but not sure how it's going to work this year, as since Christmas I've had a gammy knee - general wear and tear I think.I might be going for beached whale status...ooer! Only one way to find out if I can still manage the airbed - I'll have to try it when the weather is better.

Contrary to what it says on my profile, I did manage six nights away last year - three with family, three alone. An old familiar site, so no review and therefore no apparent way to add the nights to my profile.
