I cook in the front of our tent, but always make sure there is plenty of ventilation and someone is always there, watching whilst cooking.
Also always have a carbon monoxide detector, a fire extinguisher and fire blanket

Hi Taafe
Can you please advise which carbon monoxide detector you use; we have been trying to find one that is suitable for the small butane bottles we use in our kitchen area.
Thanks
Sue

Carbon Monoxide is Carbon Monoxide regardless of the source, Butane, Propane, Natural Gas etc. makes no difference, the difference between domestic and 'Recreational Vehicle' (camping in all its forms, boats etc.) specific ones is the physical robustness (there is a specific standard that covers them), they are designed to cope with the vibrations and shocks associated with being fitted to a mobile structure as opposed to a rigid non moving building.

Any detector is better than no detector, but one specifically designed for Recreational Vehicle use will obviously be better suited to the constant 'rough' handling and mobile use associated with camping.

Many units are sold and suitable for both domestic and camping use, so they are not really that 'specialist', nor should it be extortionately expensive. Just ensure it declares suitable for Recreational Vehicle/Caravan/MH etc.

Thanks Monty, good to know.
