My camping career doesn't go as far back as many on here, so I'm not sure I'd be rushing to volunteer to pitch that myself... But I'd be as proud as punch to be camping in it!
What a stunner!

I had a Marachall tent once. I did the same with Fabsil, so i complained to Grangers about the problem that the tent rained in. They sent me a fact sheet and told me to buy another product. Managed to sort out the issue by painting and then ironing on this type of wax, extension lead up garden ect. It did the trick. Just hope the OP sees all this thread.

I think you have a Cabanon or possibley an old Litchfield either way very good tents in their day, the condition of yours looks brilliant and therefore I woud try giving it a good soaking let it dry then spray with water and see if it leaks.

Should it leak then spray lightly with Fabsil this is a tried and tested product which allows the tent fibres to absorb moisture but does not allow water droplets through this is because fabsil is a hygroscopic fluid, years back people used to use thompsons water seal as a cheap alternative it worked well but nearly doubles the weight of your canvas due to wax content this also gave the canvas a milky look.
Enjoy your tent safe in the knowledge you have a tent damn site better built than anything today

Brilliant things: in form, function and... COLOUR!

Try it out for a night or two. As has been said above, the bedroom pods should clip onto the frame and then the roof liner, will go in the living room section (if anything like our Cabanon, one has to do this 'inversely' so so the clip side/seams go towards the ceiling, leaving the smooth side facing the occupants. Fussy maybe for a short stay but it makes the space lighter, cooler (or warmer) and smarter. Ditto the curtains. These may slide onto a plastic 'track' and tie at the ends to stop them falling off, with tie-back tapes for the day.

As I've said ad nauseum, I can put up and strike our 6-berth myself: they were/are a great design. Colour-way is a thing of beauty. Who wants to be in a green/greige/blurrish haze when you can be Terry's chocolate orange.

Scout/guide packs would probably jump at them (it's where our old family Marechal went - my formative camping years were spent in it) but do put it up first. We all want to see it in it's glory.

The rubber peg holders (heat's got to me and I can't rememeber the proper name) may have perished and become sticky but usually there is a D-ring attached by tape, through which one can put new elasticky things as a replacement. Check the guys for wear too, sometimes at the attachment to the fabric, maybe on their length.

Put it up, peg it out, and soak it thoroughly and let it dry. This should sort out any shrinkage as well as checking the waterproofness of the canvas.

Do campers 'peg it'?

That looks like a nice example of a 1970s Raclet or possibly a cabanon, similar to what we had when I was a kid... Nice good space..you'll be the talking point on site..(in a good way)
buy a large tin of fabsil to reproof it & enjoy it..
Happy camping..

First thing I thought when I saw the curtains was "1970s Raclet". My father owned one with the same curtains. We had 11 people in it for Sunday lunch on a very wet camp at Stratford Racecourse.

In many years of camping, I have never used fabsil or similar on a canvas tent.

When you put up the bedroom pods you may find a data sheet sewn into the master bedroom to the right of the door. Find it and you'll know exactly what you've got.

Hi, fabsil was just a suggestion this product can be used for many materials including cotton & canvas, a lot of people don't use this but alot does, each to their own.. Anyone going to reproof a tent ect would do their own research, I've used this product for many a year with excellent results..
