Could anyone help me - I've had a search for the answer but to no avail!
All I want to use a ehu for is to blow up my airbed (it has a self inflating motor which needs to be pluged in). I don't want to use it for anything else just this. Will I be alright with just a standard ehu adaptor with a socket on ot (£10) - or do I really need the expensive three way ones?
How about just asking another camper to blow your airbeds up for you in exchange for a beer? not worth paying £3 or so a night just for airbed. You could replace it for a normal one cheaper.
Have to agree you would be better getting a new bed and battery/12v pump. Aldi had some a week or so ago for £8.99 for a double and a few quid for a pump. Certaqinly cheaper than buying a hook up and paying the extra. Also look at Big W (Woolworths) there are plenty of bargains around at these places.
ARGOS sell a cheap airpump which works off your car cigarette lighter for less than £10 - we have one and it works great. Also buy a foot pump for a fiver so that if you need to add a bit more air you dont have to take your bed all the way out to the car!
Come on people! She only wants it too blow up the bed!!
If you are electically minded you could buy a standard extension lead, chop off the plug & fit a 240v exterior plug (3pin blue, not yellow)
Max price £5.00!!
I suspect their are some unscrupulous (dodgy spelling) campers out there that use one of these permantly without ehu/rcb/mcb etc etc. Come on you know who you are!!
Obviously this is only for temporary single use for the airbed and not to be left plugged in!! Don't forget though that you'll have to pay for the hook-up pitch for as many night your are on it. Is it worth it??
Best bet if your are never going to go electric would be an inverter, could come in handy for other things too. Get one that can be charged up in the car.
Can you pump you airbed with a manual pump? if you can then get a cheap manual pump. Ask a neighour for a bit of lecy if there isn't anyone to ask build up your muscles in your legs.
Does it have a normal blow-up valve as well? Then buy a hand or foot pump for it.
Or...and I know this is really, really radical...blow it up the reliable old fashioned way, by mouth? And don`t say it takes an age...ten minutes max for a single air bed, if you don`t stop for a chat.
I have read on more than one occasion that you dont need any RCD or MCB in your EHU because by law every campsite electric supply HAS to have its own RCD and MCB's already fitted. I am just wondering if this is the law, why should we have to fork out our hard earned cash for EHU's with these things fitted that cost an arm and a leg when the site already has them fitted to its supply by law. I do see the need tho for the right type of cable to be safe, as its going to be outside in all kinds of weather, but if the sites have RCD and MCB's fitted as the law demands then how come some sites wont let you use a proper outside cable with no RCD or MCB fitted.????????
For the same reason that you should always use an RCB on a lawnmower outside even though your house electrics have them - safety. Also I'd much rather trip my own RCB out on a site than have to reset the hookup point, particularly if it's at night, raining, or it trips more than one point.
