hello all,

we recently camped at a haven site in mablethorpe golden sands and had awful problems i would not recommend it to anyone, the touring park was 15min walk away from the main complex nothing on touring site for kids the swimming pool on main complex had an enviromental health inspector called out after numerous families were struck down with vomiting and thr runs gp took samples and it was a waterbourne bacteria the pools water was checked and the chlorine levels were all wrong which gave rise to the infections. the showeres were awfull either freezing cold or burning hot which scalded my three year old son and put him off showers for life then you are stood ater being burnt in shower covered in soap and the water stops not good fun the only good thing is that the site was next to wind turbines and my son thought they were teletubbies windmill so he was chuffed

Haven sites are notoriously bad, I've been a couple of times and had bad experiences both times.

Chalk it down to experience and find a site with 'less' to do! If you get what I mean.

It seems that Haven/British Holiday camping facilities vary greatly from very good to bloody disgusting.   Last year we stayed at Lakeland, and it was fine - we paid £56 for four nignts during half term for the four of us.  OK it was a short walk to man complex. but nothing drastic.  Greenacres has a lovely modern shoer/toilet block - and although we've not camped there, I've heard that it is clean.  We hired a static there (before we had our tetnt) and the camping field was in a large area by our van - near the complex and near the beach.
Yet after reading very poor review on Blue Dolphin we cancelled the trip we had planned this year.

We camped at the Lakeland Haven site near Flookburgh last year and that was fine. Short walk to main areas but shower facilities were very clean and my only critiscm was that the hairdryer in the Ladies wasn`t working and my daughter and I had to dry our hair under the hand dryer! The electrical pitches were regulated as to where you had to pitch, but the others were `camp where you like`, which resulted in us being `fenced in` on the day we were to leave, but other than that we would go back to this site again no problem.

See that's the trouble with these big corporation sites, I've been to a couple of them, one in Nairn near Inverness and one in Dornoch further north. The first one was ok, for instance in the clubhouse the entertainment was mainly bands which played music rooted from the local area, ie; Scottish folk, very good it was. But the next time I went one these super-sites, about 6 years later, the music was all mind numbing "Star trekking across the univeeeeeeeeeerse" or "Big fish, little fish, carboard box" With some guy dressed as a chipmunk giving it "C'moooooooooon this one's for the parents! Let's see you all up on the floor!!!!" Pulease. I prefer the more intimate family run sites, the biggies tend to be a bit money mad, squeezing as many punters into the tent area as possible then hitting you with hidden costs for amenities you thought you were already paying over the odds for with the pitch fees. Wow, thanks I enjoyed that, nothing like a good rant to stir the blood!!

Sorry but i had to laugh, last year my kids went to the isle of wight with my sister to a Park Resorts holiday park and all they kept singing when they got back was: big fish, little fish, cardboard box.

Heh heh... Well the first time you go for a wee refreshment and they play that song, fair enough. After the 4th or 5th time, well let's just say an overwhelming urge to murder a 6 foot chipmunk takes over!
