This October has (so far!) been unseasonably mild so should have led to some good trips - it's been warmer than it was on a couple of September weekends and possibly nicer than August!!
Don't get lulled into a false sense of security though - it is October and the weather might change very quickly.
obviously were mad ,just back from a week at folkestone and bar saturday night not a tent but ours in sight (one tiny tent disappeared overnight so probably a halfords special with paper thin sleeping bags )
nice weather bar tuesday when we had a river through the tent
lots of motorhomes though
I think I may be one of the mad few who considers camping late on in the year. We are currently looking for somewhere to camp from the 2nd to the 6th of November for the bonfire celebrations. We had a week at the end of September in Warren Farm, Brean and although it was wet, we didnt feel it was too cold. We do have a tent with a SIG and we do use a EHU for an electric heater that we had on for an hour or two during the evening. I havent as yet done the blankets under or over the airbeds which I will definately do for our upcoming trip and I think we may leave our heater on low all night to ensure we are comfortable. I am just looking to purchase some new sleeping bags for our trip as I dont think our summer bags will do the trick even with the duvet we are planning on taking. Luckily we have a large 4x4 and a trailer so space isnt an issue otherwise winter camping may not be possible. We may be mad, but I really dont think we will be cold, we have a Thetford loo so we wont be opening the tent in the middle of the night to freeze our tootsies going to the loo and we always research a good list of dog friendly pubs to visit of an evening if we want some company. Who knows if this works out we could be camping for New Year, cant think of anything more special that staring at the stars doing my favourite thing - camping for bringing the new year.
good luck with your new tent at haven mablethorpe we got back nearly 3 weeks ago and the weather was terrible, with gale force winds, rain and twisters in skegness need i say we didn't have a very good time oh and did i mention that the weather wrecked our new vango tent so please let me know how you get on and i hope you have better weather, Happy camping

Had one night camping at shell bay in fife last weekend (we only live 30mins away). Readybeds were not upto it even with duvet on top and fleecy inserts, would certainly buy better sleeping bags for this time of year. Were going to stick it out for another night (we did have EHU and a fan heater) but checked the weather forecast and it was going to be even colder the next night, so we packed up. Would certainly recommend the site though, lovely clubhouse and restaurant looked good. Have to pay £10 deposit for key to showers and toilets, which were clean but vandalised in places which is a pity. Shop was poor, I know it was closing on the 27th for the season but it was dire and I have been in the shop during the summer and it wasn't any better.
