I have the chance to buy a Wynnster Carmarthen for a price that is far to good to be believed. I can't find anybody talking about this tent and am a bit worried that it may not be as good a buy as it seems. Can anybody give me some clues about the good or bad points of this tent?
The specifications look very good. I havn't had this particular tent, but I have had a couple of Wynnsters in the past and they have always been good quality tents. The Wynnster name itself is highly respected. If it is to your liking and you have got a good price on it then I would go for it.
We looked at it but decided against it. Mainlybecause of the layout of the sleeping pods as, if you look at them, you lie side by side along the length of the pod, so if you are at the end you have your face gainst he roof, and if you need to get up in the night you have to climb over everyone t get out. Perhaps a petty annoyance but I've seen it mentioned several times on here whilst browsing.
We also wanted big sleeping compartment so we could sleep all together to start with, then be able to section it off as the kids got older, we were advised on here to watch the ones with seperate pods as if the kids needed us in the night we would be crawling across the tent to get to them.
We ended up going for the Wynnster Anglesey Excel as it still had the sewn in groundsheet, and the space we wanted but better configured bedrooms for us.
If its a total bargain though and you cant get any better for your money then go for it!
To be honest, we got rid of our Hartford XXL for exactly the same reason. But we all have our own specific requirements. Now we wouldn't buy a tent with less than 4 bedroom pods. We have a bedroom pod for my wife and me, the kids have one each and we have one for toilet.
You need to decide if it is right for you. The quality of Wynnster tents is excellent so its really down to whether the tent suits what you want to do with it.
Thanks for the advice. I am also a bit worried about the size of the tent as I have read that some sites don't like big tents. Will I be OK with this one? (783 cm x 653 cm)
It all depends which sites you go on. One of my tents is a Sunncamp Marathon which is certainly the biggest dome tent I have ever seen. I don't use it that much now that I have got my Montana. I can honestly say that I have never had a problem finding a site to put it on. There will be sites that won't allow tents over a certain size, but there are also plenty that will. I need an area 10m by 9m at least to erect the Marathon.
Well ours is 8x5.5 and I've already booked up at a few sites for this summer and each time have mentioned the tent size and it's not been a problem. I think it depends on the sites you go to, if its all singing all dancing ones with loads of entertainment, the pack em in like sardines ones, then you might have a problem, but if you look on the UK caravan and camping sites form there is a whole thread about sites that take large tents, 18 pages long to date.
We have a Cambrian (similar but no optional 3rd room) and love it. We sleep across or down the pod depending on the lay of the land and have no problems (just put so feet are at the slope end). We have our double bed in one pod and the boys have two single beds in theirs (bags go down the middle to provide a partition wall). The layout of the living area is great as there are the corner walls (one for sink setup, one for prep table, one for coolbox) and the table/chairs have plenty of space in middle. The construction seems good too.
Used it last year for 2 weeks across France and Spain (9 different pitches in total I think) and one weekend in Norfolk. Size is an issue for some pitches though, same for all of this type I think though, but we've always managed.
