Hi -

Keen to go camping with my young family (two daughters aged 2 and 4).

Apart from a tent - what is the essential equipment?

Any other advice gratefully received...

Hi whingefree ,welcome to the site youve found the right place ,to start you there is a very comprehensive list here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=7

But as a guide I would only take bare essentials first time out and see what you need /want from there !

If money is tight you don't have to splash out on sleeping bags - take duvets & blankets from home for first trip. You can also take a couple of saucepans, frying pan, cutlery, mugs, plates, dishes etc. from home

Good luck with your search for the most suitable tent for your needs, and basic equipment. Enjoy.

-i reccomend you start with some weekend trips first then you can figure what you need before tackling a longer break.

Someone asked this before and its true to say you don't know all that you need or want until your first trip.  One our very first trip in august 2004.  We had

1 x tent 2 x airbed 2 x sleeping bags 1 x cooker/stove 1 x set of pans 1 x set of plates/bowls/knifes/forks/spoons/cups 1 x washing up bowl bit of food, clothes and drinks, oh and wash bag

Now I have a spare room full of stuff, for spring and summer camping and autunm winter camping
