We get over that problem we lock the kids in the boot aswell  

I dont really worry about the kids they would make too much noise if someone was in tent

Our problem is trying to stop the dog slipping out in the middle of the night, he did it once at 3am when OH got up to go to the toilet, you do feel very silly walking around at that time trying to find a black dog.

When I was younger and travelled through Europe with a small two man tent I used to dig a small hole under the ground sheet and leave any thing valubale in it.

ive never had anything stolen (like nearly everyone else its the local wild life that is likley to walk off with stuff)......weve found it more of a worry at the beach if we are all in the sea...note to anyone make sure you remember where you bury your wallet  really can be a pain searching on a large sandy beach for the stone you burried your wallet under

Never had anything stolen either but do also worry about the dog getting out, hes not done it yet as usually hes had lots of walks while camping and goes to bed before we do! Hes an escape artist at home so always worried hell fancy trying it out on holiday, opens solid pine doors in house so Im sure he wouldnt have a prob with a zip!

I know exactly what you mean about dogs being escape artists! We've 2 labs and first person up in the morning has to try to get to the loo before the mutts can escape! Even using the Porta Potti in the tent is risky - you can be seen in total splendour if they manage to get under the front door bit as it just flies open fully as they go through! It's much easier in our trailer tent as we can tie them to the corner steadies if we have to ,but in our rigidome you take your life and pride in your hands! On one memorable occasion in Salisbury last year , our youngest dog had to "go" and decided to find a suitable place by escaping out the front - he turned left, the older dog followed but turned right and I had to make my mind up which to chase first - funny how my husband and kids were all sound asleep! Fortunatley both just did what they needed to and waited - bless them - for me to "clear up" and were happy to go back to bed,but was I glad it was early and hardly anyone was aroun!

Anyhow, we've camped for yonks in trailers, vans and tents and never had anything taken - as said before campers tend to look out for each other. We lost our waste bin one time when it was windy and our neighbour had chased round the campsite after it before tying it down for us.Campers really are wonderful people in my book!

it is called the campers code,i think.....and that is why you dont have many problems with thieves,its nice to see that some things in life havent changed much,we have been camping many yearsand have never had our belongings taken.Unlike being at home where we have been robbed twice

Had one experience when our tent was burgled while we were asleep inide! Slashed plastic window and stole hubbys wallet which was left on table by window (curtains closed). Now keep all  valuables with us when asleep and in car at other times. The whole site (caravan awnings and tents) were burgled apart from those who had dogs in their units!

Had to get new tent (cost too much to get repaired) but camping was not the same again. Had a break from camping for 7 or so years (in which time had two children) but have now been camping again for the past 4 years and wish we hadn't stopped. Could only afford one holiday a year - now with tent go at least 4 times and as many weekends that we can fit in.
