Hi, can someone help please? It's come to that time of year to look at tents and after Wildie's Outwell fan club post, I've been having a look at them. What does the 'flysheet first or as one' pitching mean? I know the flysheet, but what does the 'as one' mean? Thanks.
its really fly pods and gs up in one go or if you take the pods out put in after, we take ours out if the tent is wet when striking so they dont go mouldy, and makes it a lot easyer to dry the it all after.
I have a Vango Gamma 350 which offers the pitch in one option but iv never opted for it.. think it would be an a*se doing it that way.. Too heavy, hard to fold and .. well too much weight when erectin poles.. As i say iv never actualy tried it, but i dont think it would work for me.
Iv put this tent up in very windy weather and iv thought the poles were gona snap.. iv had to move car several times during setup just to keep wind off of tent, i dont think it would have been at all possible with the inner tent attatched, the weight plus the wind would have almost certainly overloaded the poles, and i dont plan to try it.. Perhaps with a smaller tent it might work but i still think it would be a nightmare for packing away etc.. The poles are desiged to take the full weight of the tent when erect and in its best position to balance the weight but i dont think they have the power to lift it all, especialy in high wind..
Better to take the pods out even if you do have an all-in-one pitching option. It doesn`t take long to toggle pods up...good job for the kids, actually. And seperate pods and flysheet are far easier to clean, dry and air out.
Plus as stated above the time you`re most likely to snap a pole is while pitching the main section and pushing it up to full height. At this point the less strain on the poles the better.
we had a Gamma 350 and found it a lot easier to leave it all as one, especially with two young children, it was a lot quicker especially in bad weather.
I have a Winfield and the only time it was errected as one was the first time it was put up. It is far too difficult to fold with the innners still attached so we always pith separately. After all in bad weather surley you just want to get out of it and inside your tent, doesn't really matter if your innners are up or not.
As for quickness I don't have problems with doing the toggles!! Keeps me and OH from killing each other (one on inside of tent one on outside)!!!
