I'm thinking of going to a festival in the Summer but it's at the other end of the country, therefore I'm considering flying instead of a 9-hour drive.

I'll be taking my tent (either 3-man dome or 2-man single hoop) and folding chair with me (plus a rucksack).

Has anyone flown with their tent as part of their luggage before?  If so, are they safe in the hold, or can I take the tent on board with me?  My rucksack and folding chair will be going in the hold, obviously.

Would imagine it is safe enough - doubt they would allow it as hand luggage?  Just watch the weight

Hi there. We took our two man tent plus a couple of rucksacks to Canada a few years ago. We made sure that the tent was well wrapped up and secured it to one of the rucksacks and it was fine.  Only bit of camping gear we weren't allowed to fly with was our trangia as they don't allow any unburnt fuel (even though our trangia was totally dry at the time).

I would be surprised if they allowed tent poles on the plane considering they confiscate nail clippers!!, they may think that you might un roll your tent in the isle, assemble a pole and charge the flight deck! + o/h locker get fairly full as well.

Me and my hubby  went to the munich beer festival a few years ago with 15 friends and we had about 7 tents with us, just like JK98 said I put our tent and poles in a wheeled holdall, plus airbed, mallet, sleeping bags, small pillows, and a very small wheeled suitcase with clothes, it came within the weight limit and none of us had any problems.
