We have a diablo 900 and we find that it is a wee bit big for going away for just a few days and we are looking for a smaller tent that would be just as good as the diablo 900 we have 3 kids and we like large living space and a sewn in ground sheet so i would appreciate it if yous could help us out on this one
Wynnsters 2006 tent catalogue is out and has lots of good looking new models in it. I think its called the Orion or similar has SIG might be what you are looking for. Good luck
I have the 2006 Wynnster catalogue too & the Orion looks as if it's the tent that replaces the Anglesey? I have not compared the 2 in detail as I already have an Anglesey but the main difference seems to be colour?
Have you seen the new Wynnster Antares 17. Not sure where you would find a pitch to put it on. It is nearly 9m x 9m weighs 65kg and sleeps 17 people in 5 bedroom compartments. These tents are getting bigger and bigger. They reckon it can be pitched in under an hour. Well this is definately one thats not a weekend tent.
Well according to the literature, they say less than an hour. My big tents ( or should I say massive tent ) days are over now. But I do like this one. I can't find a price for it anywhere though.
Me neither, but I'm surprised as I thought you preferred tents with living area SIGs? All the gaps around the porch area look draughty to me, I love the comfort of a SIG (but I guess you couldn't have that together with the benefit of 'interchangeable position bedrooms')!
SIGs are my first choice really. I personaly would take a tent without a SIG if I liked it that much, but my OH wouldn't. Now I have had a tent with a SIG I wouldn't really want to go back unless there was something so special that I couldn't resist.
Besides, I am sort of downsizing now. We are going away this year a lot of times without the kids ( they dont want to be seen with mum and dad anymore ) so there is not much point to a massive tent now for the 2 of us. I will probably stick with my Monty 12 now ( well the new 2006 model ).
We're in the same position, my Stepson (Stephen) is 16 & Stepdaughter (Jen) will be 13 next month - although they still want to come with us I doubt it'll last.
That's why we decided on the Anglesey, my OH & I can stay in the main tent, along with Jen, & Stephen can stay in our Vango as he would appreciate more privacy at his age! Alternatively, Jen sometimes brings a friend & Stephen stays at home due to work commitments so they could either squeeze in with us or use the 'pup tent' for teenage chats into the night!
So, you're getting a 2006 Monty then, why are you changing from the one you already have (just out of interest)?
Wow... That's one huge tent!... Don't think I'd like to be packed in, with another sixteen though (I know it's probably 12 berth in reality)!...
The 'living area' doesn't look that large for the number of people. I reckon you'd have to be pretty good friends to 'live' in it, for more than a few days!...
I can't think of many sites (apart from 'open field' type) that could fit it in...
I agree. I don't think it will be a bestseller. One of the things I have noticed is that most of the new ranges of tents this year are over 7metres in at least one direction. Most of the sites that I have spoken to have said they prefer only to take tents up to 7 metres or close to that size.
Maybe they're hoping that the Antares 17 will be bought by eg Scout groups? I could see the lay out working for groups like that, with three larger communal sleeping pods and two smaller ones for the leaders. And they would tend to be pitching on open field type sites. MT
------------- Tackling life the Western District way
The second one down was about £30 last year I think and was tested on one of the holiday programmes and seemed to stand up pretty well. It came second to a much more expensive one. Obviously a bit small for 5, but there are a few on the site but unfortunately they don't seam to have the prices online.
