...sorry this may be a silly question but i have only ever been camping - once last year and didnt get round to buying a lead. just really wondered what you can plug into it(?!). last year we only had one lantern so thinking of additional lighting, may be fridge, but what ese do you need them for.
have also heard that the lead should be a certain colour - can anyone elaborate on that??
Nearly everything you can use on electrics at home can be used. You have to consider damp conditions, and also you cant use anything that is super high powered ( like quick boil kettles etc ). Most Fan Heaters will work fine, just make sure they are not over 2000watts in power, You just cant plug too much in at once.
Hi ,hmmm am just thinking your camping but taking everything but the kitchen sink, camping is getting back to nature not taking your house with, A tent , sleeping bag camping cooker,or fire , and have a really good time,........-:)
I noticed a 42" plasma TV in a tent last year. Crikey! I thought part of the camping life was to get back to nature!
Saying that, we take a small fridge, elec kettle, hair dryer (not for me mind.... my short back and sides doesn't warrant one!), heater depending on time of year for the kids.... errrrrr that's about it.
Was thinking about rigging up some decent lighting mind? Hmmmmm any suggestions from you out there on the lighting front??
------------- I’m getting too old for this…but I like it
For us EHU means we can take my disabled mum camping with us ,as a bonus we get to charge our batteries and have decent lighting ( well we paid for it anyway so might as well use it ! )
hi pooroldbugger ,we have a flouresent (sp? ) plug in inspection lamp from towsure,I think it was around £6
Hi to date we have not used our ehu had it two years but not been on a site that has hook up but it dose give us more scope if we want , we have used gas fires and cookers over the 30 plus years but now we can take the microwave if we want less time cooking fan heater for quicker heat the cold is getting to the joints nowerdays lol
------------- geoff & annb,--
never lost just on tour
your just jealous of the little voices talking to me
Dont rely 100% on your E.H.U. and all that it can power. So long as you have a Gas cooker, Lantern (gas/or battery) and radio, you can camp anywhere. If you're reliant on E.H.U. you'll miss out on a lot of the prettiest & most peaceful pitches, which don't have E.H.U.. Besides, power cuts or 'dodgy' site electrics, are far from unknown...
By all means, if you're camping in the Spring/Autumn use E.H.U. for heating and lighting (as the days are shorter with cooler evenings/nights). Just don't rely on it!
Hi thanks for all your responses. Don't want to take everything but the kitchen sink with us but with 2.5 year old twins and an 11 and 12 year old, some things, i feel, are essential like decent lighting and warmth. after all its my break too and if i can take my laptop with me so the kids can watch a dvd if need be then surely thats not so bad is it ................?!?
The good thing about camping Sian, is you can do as you please... If you could see into everyones tents, they're all different... Whatever suits you and your family is fine...
