Hi all new to the forum and looking for some good advice from the people in the know.

We are thinking of purchasing a Royal Montpellier 12 tent.

I have only seen picture and want to know if any one has ne and what they think of it really.

Is is quick to put up or a right pain?

Is the living area spacious or awkard?

What are the Royal tents like in general good qualityor happy shopper level?

We have seen a gelert Alaska 8 which we really like, the height space etc.  and don't know what to go for.

All help and assistance is greatly received.

Thanks in anticipation for you help.

We have a Montpellier 9 (similar to the 12 but with three sleeping areas instead of four). My main piece of advice is that although ours is, theoretically, a nine birth tent trying to get three people in each sleeping compartment isn't really on. So it's more a spacious six birth than a nine. Unless the sleeping compartments are bigger that would make yours a spacious eight birth

Other than that i think they're really good tents. Built in groundsheets, v. spacious living area, lots of sewn-in pockets. You will definitely need two people to erect it though - i have to go inside and hold up the poles while my wife goes around and clips them in place. The other thing to bear in mind is that it's an 'inner first' so putting it up/ taking it down in the rain isn't recommended.

Thanks for your reply Martin it was very helpful.

There will only b 4 of us camping and as I have a son and daughter they want their own sleeping compartment.

We were thinking of using the other pod for storage food, clothes, beer etc.

How long does it usually take to erect the tent?

Regards

Lisa & Simon

i had a montpellier 9 and thought it was a bit of a pain to erect and felt a little flimsy when it was windy.  I know there more expensive, but tunnel tents are generally easier to put up and providing you have metal poles are more robust in winds, also take less space, just incase that camping park charges you more.

Lisa, Simon

All in all, probably a good hour but that covers everything: siting, erecting, pegging out and pegging guy ropes. I've only had one other tent which was a fair bit smaller than the Royal which meant i could (just about) manage to erect it by myself. The Royal does take longer but only because there's more of it. I can't really comment on Atko's post as we've been lucky enough to have pretty reasonable weather when we've used our Royal. However, i would say that though metal poles may be stronger they're also heavier.
