The end of last year we discovered the joys of camping and we were able to get away only 3 times before the season came to a close. We are hoping to get away for the first time this season at easter and i was wondering from any die hards out there if many people tent at this time of year. The reason i wondered is because i expect it will still be quiete chilly in april although we have brought 2 very small coleman heaters one of which we had last season and was invaluable.(money well spent) I have to say that i wish i had discovered camping years ago there was just something very specail about being outside and cooking breakfast by the entrance of the tent all very primitive but great fun. Happy camping.
A lot of people camp at Easter - we normally do, even when Easter is early. This year though, for the first time since we started camping we have other plans.
It can be cold, but as long as you are prepared for this with adequate clothes and bedding it's no problem (we've never bothered with a heater).
Thanks Liz that sounds promising i suppose at least easter is april this year has been march in the past.Whatever your doing at easter have a lovely time.Lets up its fairly warm :)
I camp in January, let alone Easter! It's lovely and peaceful, you can't beat it. I usually try to get out for the long weekend. I am the world's coldest sleeper, so I'm not exactly tough! A woolly hat (in bed!), silk sleeping bag liners, long johns and long sleeve vest under your PJ's and a blanket over and under your airbed are the main things that make a difference. I now use a hot water bottle on the advice of another lightweight camper and that makes all the difference. And I'm probably safe from muggers, because they could never find me through that lot!
Hi there sounds like very good advice especailly the water bottle i would not have thought of that.I must say you say you are not that tough but anyone who can camp in jan is ok by me :) Made me feel quiete a wimp worrying about april lol.Have a good season.
My very first camping experience was at Easter in Whitby in 2001. I nearly froze to death but had such a good time, I've been going ever since! As long as you wrap up, I'm sure you will be fine. At least the nights will be drawing out a bit then. Have fun!In fact you've got me thinking perhaps me and the other half ought to get away then too.... Once we've bought a new tent of course (take a look at my photos if you want to know what I mean).
Hi thanks for the reply what happened to the tent looks pretty sorry for itself:( We cant wait to get back out there again as we had such a great time last year.As you pointed out i guessed it would be cold ugh!!!!!!!! i,m a bit of a wimp. But i,m not going to let it put me off.I have been to Whitby many times but not camping it is one of my most favorite parts of the country but when its cold its cold.Im hoping it will be a little more calm where we will be in Norfolk plus the camp is very inland and off the road.Fingers xd.Hope you have a good time easter if you go away i think everyone deserves a break and what a nicer way to have one.
The two best tips for cold weather camping are keep warm and keep DRY!!! If you get cold and damp you'll never warm up again. If you do get cold in the evenings go to bed, you will soon warm up. If your clothes get damp take them to bed with you, they will be dry in the morning. The hot water bottle idea works well, someone to cuddle works even better!!! Take a blanket or two to augment your sleeping bag. Remember most of the cold comes up from the ground, one blanket underneath you is worth two on top, even if you use an airbed. Good luck and have fun. Steve
Thanks for the reply you are the second person who has mentioned about using a blanket under the airbed therefore i would be a fool not to do it it sounds like good advice cos there is nothing worse than being cold. And for me that would ruin the whole thing dreading being in the tent at night because of it.So i will have to go into my linen cupboard and dig deep in this day of duvets but will be well worth it.Thankyou for your kind wishes have a good season too yourself.
i am taking my family camping in a three bed tent at easter and one of our party is only 2 we cant wail we are going to fisherground farm in eskdale we hope the weather will be kind ps can you tell me how you post a letter on this tent page i cant quite work out how to do it ps im new to computers too? i have a question aout the best place to go for the camp fires and the basic camping experience exept the one we always go to, the kids are bored of the same old place?
I'm hoping to get away for a few days during the holidays - although not for Easter itself. We have a gas fire, and will take plenty of layers with us - then we are prepared what ever the weather.
My Wife, 8 year old daughter and I went camping at Easter last year, and it was March last year. We found that the days were ok, but we were going to bed at about 8.30pm so that we were wrapped up in our sleeping bags before the cold came in. I woke up at 5.30am to the horses tearing open a neighbours rubbish and went to answer a call of nature. On the way back to the tent, I noticed that all the cars were covered in frost, man we must be tough!
Hi everyone who has taken the time to email me it has been very helpful thanks..In reply to Angelsale i have only been camping a short while myself but i find that the fisherie camp sites are the best for the true camping expereince. They are ussually in a wooded area and obviously alongside a lake.A lovely relaxed setting for a barbie and a camp fire of an evening although we respect the area we ussually build our camp fires in the barbeque tray to save burning the grass and upsetting the owner of the site.
In reply to moonseeker i hope you have a lovely holiday and the weather is good for you.And lastly in reply to Mike frost on the cars ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you say we must be tough i.d say we must be mad :) Enjoy the season to you all and thanks again.
