We are hoping to buy a utility tent for our main holiday this year, which will hopefully be a fortnight in Wales. This means we will have to buy a trailer as well, I think the new Porta Potti and the Utility tent will push us over the limit. I guess we could always leave the kids at home.....
Anyway, the sites we have seen charge extra for a pup tent, awning or gazebo but I can't see anything about a Utility tent. What do all of you with Utility tents normally classify these as, or do you not get charged for them?
Some do some don't. Ever seen Mr Fiddler from Carry on Camping? If you get one of these, move to the next site.....
Just make sure you ask before you go to make life easier. I avoid the ones who charge extra for a trailer because I don't think it's fair. Could have a small car and small trailer and end up paying more than someone in a big 4x4!
I`ve never asked, and no-one`s ever asked me for money for putting up a utility tent. It`s not a pup tent, gazebo or awning after all! But if the campsite manager did say I had to pay I would do so, no problems.
I think though that the big day tents would be classed as gazebos. A little kitchen only tent is a bit more inconspicuous. Also all this has to fit on your pitch, remember, including keeping clear of your neighbour under the 6m rule if that applies on that particular site.
I have been to two sites that charged me for my utility tent, its only 6ft by 3ft but was still charged, cost me an extra £2.50-£3.50 a night for it, but the site was really nice and i din want to leave because of the extra costs. Prefer sites that charge you one pitch price but more often than not they now charge you for tent size over certain limit, amount of people, cars on some, pup tents, utility tents, dogs ect.
Cant complain as i am putting a 30ft by 30ft tent on pitch a huge people carrier and also a trailer and seven of us in tent so extra costs i accept lol
