We bought one of these lovely looking tents at the end of last season and can't wait to get out and use it. What we need to know from other monty owners is do we need to have a front canopy, will we miss out on something if we don't get one!!! Am I just using this as an excuse to go to the camping shop!!!
The front canopy looks good, and would be good for shade out the sun or rain ( if you want to sit outside the tent etc ), I suppose you could also cook under it if you wanted to. Other than that, it doesn't really have much other use. It doesn't seal so you can't store anything under it. I must admit, I have got one for the Monty 4 I have just ordered, but it really was because I liked the look of it.
We have the Monty 4 and after using it last year would definately not use it without the extention front canopy. There are only two of use and choose the 4 over the 6 because it seemed a much more cosy tent (the 6 seemed enormous). However!!! we find the angle at the front of the tent cuts off a lot of usable space and because the door cant be used as a canopy (big mistake Mr Outwell) its much nicer to pop your bits and peices (no comments please) under the extention, fetching them in when necessary.

Hi Wally, I agree. There is a definite gap in the market for a Montana 5! Or at least a Montana with living space sized bigger than the 4 but not as much as the 6, there really is a very big jump in sizes between the 4 and the 6. MT

The 6 has the biggest amount of space. The 4 has just enough to live comfortably in, the 6 has nearly double the room and then the 12 goes down again. We use the 12 for 4 to 5 people and we have now got the 4 for just the 2 of us to go away at weekends. On a space per person basic the 6 winds hands down.
Hello CamperJan. We are seriously interested in the Indiana 4. We thought when we bought the Monty that the old Colorado was just about an ideal size for us but it could not compete against the SIG of the Monty. Maybe the "bathtub" groundsheet on the Indi can win us over, won`t know until we see one in the flesh though.
We prefer to use the large window door at the front as our main entrance in and out of our Monty 6 so for us the front canopy is a must as it means that we never have to worry about rain and the enjoyment of our tent is never lessened by the weather.
We love to sit all cosy and warm inside the tent with the big door open watching the world go by when the weather is bad and you just can't do taht without the canopy.
