Anyone had problems pitching vango 900 or similar at any sites or been charged double pitch prices?

Any recommendations of sites in Northumberland that will accept this size tent please?

Hi Grace and Welcome to UKCS

It must be a bit quiet tonight as lots of people have this tent and big tents on small sites is a hot topic at the moment as sites seem to be restricting the size in a few places.

There is a list of sites that do accept big tents here but in general I think most still do take them - have you been asked about the size of your tent?

Don't be surprised if your post gets moved - there are camp site and tenting subsections on here so the web people may move your post - you'll get an email if they do though.

Hi Grace, welcome to ukcampsite.co.uk,!

Some camp sites are no charging extra for the very large 'Y' shaped tents, the ones I have heard of are charging around £5 more than they do for a typical 4-6 berth tent.

Hopefully some of the '900' owners will get back to you shortly as to sites in the Northumberland area who charge an acceptable price.

We have a 900 and I have been unsuccessful in finding a Northumberland site near the coast as every one said 5 metres width max. Very frustrating. However I have stayed at River Breamish, Powburn, near Alnwick, a fair drive from the coast but a lovely site. Tent area is small but you can book a pitch.

Grace, welcome to the site, I'd suggest you do a search on the Diablo 900, it is a tent that lots of people bought last year - there are some problems with it (see "saggy bedrooms" thread) and you might find that this year there are some better options around than the Diablo but the previous threads will give you some idea of the mix of comments on it.

Spent Thursday night on campsite in Shropshire using a camper van just for transport and camping in a Coleman Sahara. I was charged for both the camper AND the tent despite the camper taking up no more room than a car I thought I was hard done by. Just the two of us plus grandchild.

We have booked on a site through UKCS called Highburn House at Wooler, Northumberland. They said they had no problem with the larger tents. However we have realised there have been problems with the 900 and have opted to change it for the Vango Aspen 700 DLX which is more a frame tent but large without taking up the space of a Diablo 900.
