Hi the rubber loops on both the fly and inner peg out. The small plastic loops on the fly are for if you wanna put extra pegs in the fly in case the wind is really bad.
We have some of these at school, and they also have a hook and strap that connect the inner and fly together at approximately the centre of each wall - it stops the inner from sagging.
The Vango Force Ten is still one of the best tents you can get. They come with either cotton or nylon fly and will stand up to just about anything the weather can throw at it.Field & Trek stock them.
Echo all the above comments - brilliant tents. I used to have a nylon Mk III, still have a cotton Mk V - must be 20 years old.
You don't have to peg out the walls of the inner separately with the biggest bands - you can put the flysheet loops through them, so that the flysheet pulls the inner walls up & out. It's not brilliant, but it saves you a job if the weather's bad. If you're backpacking it, this cuts down on weight too because you can halve the number of pegs you have to carry.
How old is it? It looks in really good condition - colour not faded at all. If it is old, the rubbers do perish and have a habit of snapping unexpectedly. After trying lots of different fixes, I've found the best is to keep a supply of shock cord & just cut a new one to length and knot it. If you want to be really smart, use nylon zip ties on the shock cord instead of a knot.
Hubby and I used to use one of the old cotton canvas Force 10`s...we still have it in fact, in near perfect condition. Great tents.
Yes to all the above comments as to where to peg it down. But it`s best to peg the flysheet and inner seperately if possible. We used to carry this tent split between our two bikes, so carried the full complement of pegs.
No - I can't help further re age. Yup - stick to the Terra Nova for backpacking & keep the Vango for base camp. Many, many years ago, my Force 10 Mk3 went up & over Benn Eighe, Liathach & many other Torridon peaks with me. I may have been a real man when I set out, I'm not sure I still was at the end!!!
Hilleberg are my tents of choice for the little bit of backpacking I still do. Stupid prices, but absolutely without equal. I have an Akto if it's just me, & have just bought a Nallo for me & my 11 year old son to share. By next year, he'll be carrying it...
Congrats on your force 10...... we now use a FCamper but still have our cotton Mark 5 and have many fond memories of camping in it. We saw one on a site last year in Wolverly and although we were comfy in our FC I couldn't help but feel a bit envious of the owners of the Vango.
I have a MK4STD that my parents bought me when I was 12 back in 1980,& I still use it regularly. One the modern ones there is a plastic clip, that you can use too join the inner,& outer together quickly.Or just peg the inner out using the rubber bands.I replaced the flysheet on mine about 8 years ago,& it has the plastic clips. But it also has bungie cords, as opposed to rubber bands to peg out.
