Hi

I'm Amanda and I'm from Glasgow and as I'm pregnant am looking to change my camping style this year. I'm usually a backpacking style camper with a small lightweight tent but am now looking for a family size tent that'll be used on campsites only and not in the winter. Weight isn't a problem as we'll be camping from the car but I would prefer to be able to stand up in the tent and have a reasonable amount of space to sit in the living area. I have no idea where to start so any help given would be great. Any suggestions?

thanks

Amanda

either the vango diablo 600 or vango aspen 500 all have great space and you can get your average 6'4 giant standing up !!! :-)

If you want Huuuuuge ,I would say the Aspen ! (see pic in profile)  but you would need a pretty big car tbh .

If you give us more of an idea what you need ,ie -how many people ,pets  ,budget style prefered ect ?

thanks for the welcome and ideas everyone.

think it'll be a 4-6 man tent (tho there will be 2 adults and 1 baby), no pets, budget maybe upto £200 but not totally sure on that... I'm quite short and so is partner so we wouldn't need too high a tent, don't think huge is what I'm looking for but I've no idea of styles as I'm used to my little 1 and 2 man backpack tents. Sorry I can't be more specific but having looked at a few websites I'm none the wiser as to what's best for us.

thanks

Amanda

It maybe a good idea to get out and look at some tents before making your mind up. The Vango Venture is very popular becaue it is is a quality tent at a good price. Vango also now do a new tunnel tent the Oregon which has a "riser" groundsheet. This means the tent goes up outer first, and the GS clips in so far up the sides, thus cutting out drafts, but it is still separate which is great for when it might be muddy and need to be packed away separately. A tunnel shape is very easy to put up too, and Vango are a reliable make. I think it may give you a little  more living space than the Vango Venture. The 4 berth is £110 at Outdoor Focus here

Hi Amanda wlcome to UKCS I hope you find some answers.

If you have a young baby I think a Sewn In Groundsheet to the whole area makes sense (most just have bedroom SIGs), as once it starts crawling it will get round the tent very quickly and you can relax more if you know it can't escape.

A bargain example of this is the Wynnster Anglesey £150 here. They do take longer to put up tho and may take two of you so get that baby in a sling. If you are experienced campers you should be fine with it - just practice before you go away and it should be up within 30 mins.

This would probably last you years.

With young kids you want them in the same bedroom too so I would avoid the vis a vis style ones - unless you banish OH to the other side of the tent.

If you're looking for something more portable world of camping have bargains from £65 here but you don't get much living space til you get up to the Wynnster Mallard at £95. This is 2006 model so no need to rush for a bargain, see it somewhere first.

You can also see the newer models on sale so you can compare them.

If you are looking for a baby bed try these. We use a full travel cot and even in a full height bedroom can still be a pain.

Hi Amanda, welcome to the site.

If you can, go to Outriggers in Dunfermline and Jim will sort you out. He is really helpfull and wont push you into anything. We are going tomorrow to pick up our Montana 6. Sooooooo excited.  Remember its all very well looking on a site and picking up a bargain but you really have to see the tents up before you can decide.

Good luck. let us know how you get on.
