Just picket up our Monty 6 today and am not sure about the poles. I have read all the previous comments about the poles but how can I be sure I have the new poles for our 2006 model. Apparently the new poles are suppose to be brown/black and ours are gold/shiny and that makes me think that we might have 2005 poles!!!!

What do other Montiers use to store their food/pots etc and is it worth getting the extra canopy on the side (on the side with all the windows as I am note sure front from side).

Is it advisable to get a groundsheet to protect the sig and if so please recommend one.

Last of all we got the tent from PJ's in Stevenage Herts for £329

I think the 2006 poles have gone back to the original colours - it was just the modified 2005 poles that changed.

As long as you have a 2006 Monty (and lets face it there were no 2005 ones left) then you will be OK.

Enjoy your tent - I have both Monty 4 and 12 waiting for the weather to pick up so I can pitch them for the first time. I can't wait.

Whilst I've not used mine yet, but I bought the front canopy for the 4 and the side canopy for the 12 to use for cooking and sitting out. I expect to use a bedroom for storage on the 12, and a corner in the 4 as this is just a father & sons bonding tent - no girls or tidiness allowed. I think the canopies will be worth their weight having used the porch on my Vango Diablo 900 as a kitchen last year.

As for ground sheet I am undecided. I may pick up the B&Q tarpaulins which are good sizes, and I had also considered lining the inside with Eco Mat this year (but it's mighty expensive). I'll play this one by ear later in the season.

I have recently purchased the Monty 6 and decided to buy an additional ground sheet to keep the SIG as dry as possible - didn't want to risk contaminating the rest of the tent with a wet base when packing away.  I did my homework and ended up using www.tarpaulinsdirect.co.uk I bought the Topgrade Tarpaulin 6.0m x 4.0m colour green. Weight is under 5Kg - cost including P&P £32.15.  NB size of the groundsheet is slighty smaller width wise than the monty base by 15mm but I decided the next size up was too big and did not want loads of spare to tuck under as you need to think about pegging down the Monty plus the additional  groundsheet comes with eyelets 1metre apart to secure in place. I am pleased with the quality of the groundsheet and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Regards

Tony

Less than a tenner- must be same quality and thickness of a B&Q carrier bag.

Well said Skatty!   We use one for our Montana (dos'nt everyone).Tony's right though they are a load of rubbish (I'm a builder), but they work pefectly well for tents and that all that matters isn't it.

Hi Tony, I have bought off the tarpaulins direct website too and would recommend it. They have an enormous range of sizes, which is really helpful if you're looking for the closest match to the size of a particular tent. Also, they offer the tarps in a range of qualities, so although your top of the line tarp was a little dear, if you had chosen the same size in the budget option it would only have been £12.95. MT

I can definitiely say that the ones at www.tarpaulinsdirect.co.uk are exceptional quality.  I bought the Montotex one for my 12 after the one from B&Q only lasted me 2 trips ( somehow got a hole in it ).  The Monotex one was expensive but it really is indestructable.  The only problem is that it is quite a bit thicker than a standard Tarpaulin so takes up a bit more room.
