Last summer during a VERY HOT July day, we visited our local camping shop. They have a good outdoor display of tents from Khyam, Gelert, Vango and Outwell among others.

The thing that struck me was the temperature difference of going into a SIG tent and a Non SIG tent. I think that Non SIG tents just get better ventalation by design.

We have a Khyam witn no SIG. But the bedroom pods do have SIG. For us that is the important bit - keeping the creepy crawlies out while you are asleep.

We have got really big mud flaps on the flysheet which we tuck under the ground sheet to give a good seal against draught or blowing rain.

A major advantage of having a seperate groundsheet is that at the end of the camping season, we just jetwashed the entire thing.

My feeling is exactly the same as Liz G - if it's raining and we've been walking all day, I just want to be able to wander into the tent and collapse in my chair and not worry about whether I'm getting mud on the floor or little puddles are being made from the drips on my raincoat!!

We have a Mayon Vario 4 with SIG but there a fully sown in SIG's on both bedroom which keeps us cosy at night.

Also, just things like getting ready to go out for the day - how do you wander in and out of the tent to collect your day packs & coats and flasks etc without constantly tready muck in & out - I'd drive myself up the wall trying to keep the floor clean!

HOWEVER - totally a personal preference - my sister-in-law has a Diablo with a full sown in ground sheet but she has 2 x small children & this is perfect for her cos in the morning they can just clamber out of bed & play on the floor without her having to worry.
