We are new to camping and are trying to decide which is best tent for us.  We are family of 4.  We have been looking at Outwell Montana 6 or the Suncamp Vario Family Plus 600.  Both seem to have sewn in groundsheets as I don't like bugs.

We like the look of both but need something easy to put up so we can have lots of weekend camping.  Any ideas which to go for???

Thanking you....

Hi Karen, welcome to ukcs, If its just a weekend tent you're after, the campus yale is very easy to put up, Caddyclan put hers up alone in 15 mins, plenty big enough for 4 and sewn in ground sheet and only £99. There is even a video clip to show you how easy it goes up. heres the link http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=61491&PagePosition=2

I would say it was an ideal tent to start with to see if you like camping first without spending a fortune.

The other 2 tents you mention are both very well liked tents, there have been  lots of discussions about them. Put the tent name in the yellow search button at the top of the page and select the tent talk forum

For a quick up and down tent for a family of four why not have a look at a Vango Oregon 400 or 600?

Hi - I am not sure that the Sunncamp Varios do have a fully sewn in groundsheet right through the living area - I thought they just went up fly first and had a loose GS (though the bedrooms will have a SIG) I may be wrong - have you seen both tents in the flesh? That is often the clincher- one may just appeal to you more than the other.

If SIG is essential then the Outwell Sun Valley is a good compromise - full SIG for living/sleeping area, loose SIG in porch area.

The Campus Yale has full SIG but goes up inner first, which can make you vulnerable to rainy weather as the inner is not waterproof like the outer flysheet is, so if you get caught in the rain you either have to delay putting the tent up or risk getting a damp inner.

There is a priority thread HERE all about the pros and cons of sewn in groundsheets which may help.

Hi,

We have just bought a Sunncamp Vario 900 ( 2006 model ) at the weekend and I can tell you that it has a fully sig,the same goes with all the 2006 vario ranges unlike the 2005 model that didn't have fully sig.

Hope that is of some help.

Shotty

The Sunncamp Vario 600 plus is fab!  Me and hubby have one and it is huge!  For and extra £30 it is worth getting the plus!  The sewn in groundsheet is brilliant as we have a dog and was worried about him digging and escaping but there is no chance with this!!!  The 2006 version (which we have) have a SIG all the way through and the bedrooms just hook in!!  One of the other things I like is the storage as there is a wardrobe area and also some other storage areas for things like socks etc.......  Me and hubby are going camping on Saturday and going to be trying out our new tent for the first time I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!!  Also it is very easy and quick to put up it only took me and hubby and 30-40mins!!!!!
