I much prefer a bathtub groundsheet as the rain water can't get in and there are no gaps under the tent that make you feel colder or less secure and safe.

Can I show my ignorance (new to this) - what is a bathtub groundsheet?

Many thanks, CP

We always inspect the area where we are going to pitch.  9 times out of 10 we will find something that could potentialy damage the groundsheet, or failing that dogs pooh.  We also put down a very high quality builders tarp before the tent goes down.  Moles or any sharp objects would have real trouble getting through the tarp as it is almost impossible to cut as well with normal scissors.

This is why I am always prepared to pay the extra for the tarp and get the high quality one instead of the ones from B&Q.

SIG by another name. It`s used for the sewn in groundsheet arrangement you have in the pods of flysheet first tents. Basically a tray shaped groundsheet that is sewn onto the inner wall of the tent. Usually this sort of tent is erected inner first.

The new groundsheets that are coming out in this year`s flysheet first tent are caller Riser groundsheets...they are seperate but have small wall sections that curl up the inside of the tent and toggle into place.

There was also a fashion last year for semi-SIG groundsheets...sewn in on some side but not all. (Yes, I think it`s an oxymoron too....)

I'm very fussy about all that sort of thing. It's sometimes the part of pitching that almost takes the longest, particularly when using the Khyam.

We caused much amusement to some Danes on a campsite in Belgium last year, we turned up with the car packed to the roof and a roofbox (we'd been to Epernay to do our champagne shopping!).  The Danes apparently got their beer out thinking these weird English people were going to be fun to watch.  We stuck up the VV500 and the Dayroom in about 20 minutes total BUT it had taken me half an hour to walk round the camping field trying to work out where and how I wanted to pitch the tents!!
