We go camping today! Horray! Still lots to do but we're not going far!

I pulled back the curtain and there is a HUGE raincloud out there! It has been sunny all week!

Also going camping today with the wife and kids and a friends kid. Dry and bright at moment in Edinburgh but weather forecast for the weekend in Peebles not to great sleet/snow showers but as Nicki as long as it holds out until the tent is up then brilliant. Absolutely sure the kids will love it, rain hail or shine.

Went to Peebles, only 45 minute drive, left Edinburgh sun shining. Sun still shining when we got there, put the tent up, sent the kids on their way to the park, and the heavens opened and the wind got up.

In addition if you have ever been at Crossburn and you manage to get a pitch numbered 19 to 25 then you have a very difficult job pitching your tent due to stones in the ground and tree roots.

By this morning after a very cold night, rain, hail, sleet and snow, the pitches were a quagmire and clearly the weekend was a wash out and we ended up packing up and going home.

Heres hoping that that next week the weather will be better and we will manage out.

I think you were right to abandon ship, sometimes you just have to surrender. The weather is so late changing this year, how many Easters have been sunny & warm, and look at it now? I've just had this conversation with a friend who is setting off tomorrow, but at least they are in a 'van. It's still too cold for me I'm afraid!

we're going away on Easter Monday for 5 nights. The weather forcast seems good up unitl the Thursday when rain is forecast day and night, with rain on the Friday night. Obviously it could change but if we only have one wet day, that's not so bad!

Hi MJ
I think I'm going to Crossburn sometime the week after next, could you tell me what its like please? Is there somewhere to walk the dog, how far are the nearest shops, whats the toilet block like?

Thanks in advance
Jock & Harry

Hi Jock

Crossburn is a nice campsite, located next to a river, ideal for walks with the dog.  The campsite is on the edge of Peebles and the town centre is only about a three minute drive. There is a Somerfield store on the same road as the campsite heading into Peebles on the right hand side, you may miss it as it would appear to double up as the towns car park.

The toilet block is accessed through a code given out when you book in. The block itself is warm and clean. A new shower block is currently being consructed.

The only negative is the ground for pitching tents, but other than that the site is excellent.

Thanks MJ
If you ever see a coleman bispace with a daft wee black & white collie outside pop over for a glass of something chilled.

Thanks again Jock & Harry
