We are looking for a cheap trailer, around £200. We have been camping before, 2 adults plus 4man tent, but now we have a one year old, so need more space, he needs to take quite a lot for a small person!!

We would appreciate anyones recommendations or warnings! We have been considering Caddy, Erde and Daxara. Initially we thought the smallest size would be adequate but having read some previuous messages we are now not sure.

We know Halfords had a good offer a month or so ago, we missed it!!! Looking on ebay but they seem to go for more than we would be willing to pay for secondhand.

Thanks for reading

Carter family

Hi!

Have a look at the Yellow pages and see if there are any specialist trailer dealers near you.

I bought a 4'x3' wooden trailer about six years ago now. Whilst it is probably not as robust as a metal trailor, it is deeper, so you can obviously get more in it.

The smallest metal trailers really are small, it deffinatly pays to shop around.

I think mine was about £350 brand new, which at the time was about the same as the smaller metal ones.

Also consider 2nd hand. £200 probably won't get you much in the way of a new trailer, but there should be plenty of decent used ones for that money.

Happy searching!

We have the Caddy 530 and would recommend it without hesitation. We now also have to use "greedy boards" as well.

I agree with Howslo, get a wooden trailer, it's easier to extend it upwards with a few extra boards if you find that you need more space next year.

My tip - make suer it's got decent size wheels.   If you end up going to France and wanting to go long distances along the autoroutes at 80mph (which is legal with a trailer there), then small wheels will puncture due to the heat build up etc..   Every time we go to France, we see loads of British trailers on the hard shoulder with punctures due to this.

Also, even if it's not required now, I'd look at getting a trailer which will take a bike rack on top - very useful when the family gets bigger!    We have a 4 year old and a 2 year old, and we now use a rofbox and trailer with bikes on the top!
