hi all,

has anyone been to outriggers in Dunfermline? We were thinking about going to look at tents particularly interested in outwells, but were wondering if it worth travelling as journey about 80 miles, dont want to go and be dissapointed with poor show.

Hi Max Outriggers defo stocks good gear, seems to be fair priced and staff v. helpful!

We were ther on thursday helpful as usual  BUT display is not their strong point!!! On display be it poorly, are a montanna 6, and an indianna 6, also i think one other outwell, a coleman 6 berth model a gorgeous jack wolfskin 6 berth and a couple of smaller tents,  problem being these are great tents but  are so poorly displayed it put us off,( the montanna had a big rip in the roof and a puddle in the bedroom section!)  probably not worth the trip to look at display models. but if you need other bits it may be worth while.

Maybe they will smarten up as the season gets on a bit, give them a ring to see whats on display if you fancy the trip!

Have fun!!!!!!!

cheers davedb,

its proving to be difficult to look at 'quality' tents on display in our area (scot borders).

We dont want to part with a big wedge without having a good look first!

Web pics are ok but you cant get any real  idea of space, size, light etc. As your in Fife, where do you get your gear, look at / buy tents?

thanks

We had to trust pictures I'm afraid! But the best way is to have a good look around whatever site your on and have a natter with anyone who has a tent you like the look of  You can then surf for the best deal

If you are in the borders have you tried camping ecosse in tranent? I can't get a web site for them and haven't been there since I went with my parents to buy a new frame tent in the 70's!

It's meant to be really good, give them a ring to see whats on display but it should be much closer to you.

For bits a bobs of kit we use outriggers it is a good shop as I said it's just the lack of display skills that let it down!

Hi, I would phon Camping Eccosse before you go as everytime we are looking for something, it's out of stock.

Outriggers, I find, give you more advice but when we bought our Montana 6 from them, it took them nearly 4 weeks to deliver it and even then it was a hassle!!! So,that could be a problem if it's diffucult to go and pick your tent up (cos they have to order most of them in, although that might change as the weeks go on).

Good luck

We have used Outriggers a couple of times and have travelled up from Newcastle area on more than one occasion and they are very highly rated by us for customer service.
Had an Outell Winfield that we had problems with and they sorted it out no problems and it was them who got our new poles for our Montana last year as well.

Maybe it's who you talk to?  They all just seemed to pass the buck.  Eventually cos of the non arrival of our tent (even though we phoned to make sure it was in before we set off), we were promised delivery, and 10% off anything in the store.  How nice, we thought. We'll have this new Coleman airbed and an EHU.  Thanks very much. Oh, sorry, said Outriggers, we can't give you 10% off those things, they're so cheap already, you see!!!!!!!!!!

Four weeks later they phoned to say your tents in, delivery on Thursday. Took day off work, stayed in ALL day.........no tent.........no phone call.  Anyway to cut a long story short, it took yet another 5 days for us to get our tent. Inbetween times, they asked us to come and pick the tents up (our friends had also bought a Sunvalley 8). That was a lot of money that they nearly lost because of this.
