background: we originally planned to camp this easter weekend then were put off by the snow last weekend and the fact that our car died last saturday, but got the car back this saturday and as we were planning on visiting my parent anyway figured we should test our campus iny 8 in their garden (our garden isnt big enough). so we ended up camping in their garden last night figured it was a good way to break our 4month old into camping (and we wanted to try out the indy )
the plan has been to go EHU this year, and last night we had our EHU (w/ RCD) rigged up at my parents along with the electric fan heater, the fan heater is great for keaping warm on an evening but didnt do so good in the night. I know many people leave the heater on low for the night and figured if i left it in the main compartment that would be enough. on 2kw it probably would be but on 1kw (as most people seam to use) it wasnt (even running constantly). i reluctantly ended up rearranging the bedroom to make space for the heater -then things were much warmer. we were thin on bedding but i expected more from the heater, Im not kean on it been in the bedroom (even tho there is lots of space).
how do other people do it?
also the thermostat on my heater seam rubbish once it turns itself off (very warm room) it doesnt come back on till the room is really cold, -again fine for an evening when you can adjust it, but not good for the night!
We camped last weekend in the snow and hail with our little Argos heater. One night we had it on 1kw the other 2 nights we had it on 2kw. One night it was so cold that there was ice on the inside of the inner skin of the tent.
We - and the 6yr ole daughter - had a fleece blanket, fleece inner liner and 400gsm sleeping bags. We were toasty warm!
But felt a bit guilty about the envirnmental impact of having the heater on all night!
------------- "Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you!"
its clear you do not have the right bedding after all a tent is to keep the weather out not to keep you warm, get your selfs some half decent sleeping bags, we got bags from -20 rating to +10 comfort or in otherwords season 4 season 3 and season 2, 2 been summer, if you get season 2 bag rated comfort min +0 max +10 you can upgrade the warmth with a fleece liner if it gets too cold but its harder if you got a winter rated bag to down grade if its too warm.
so if on a budget go for a season 2/3 thats about 350 gsm -5 extream +10 comfort.
we also use gas lantens which give of light and lots of heat.

"we were thin on bedding"
Guess that sums it up then!
but Im still not happy with the thermostat on the fan heater, it was only cheap, but what is everyone elses like? my heater reaaly heats the room then turns off and doesnt come back on till the room is freezing again!
