Looking to buy our first tent.  Have seen a couple of styles Dome (Outwell Hartford L £189) and Tunnel (Coleman Canyon 8 £99).  Both have their own advantages not least the Coleman in terms of price but I tend to be a believer in "you get what you pay for".

Any idea why the Outwell is near enough double the price,  it is the name I'd be paying for or are they by far more superior in terms of build and quality?

To compare the two tents is like comparing apples and oranges as they are both uterley and completely different.

One thing I can say is that with both bedrooms up in the Coleman you have a great deal more space in the Outwell Hartford L, however the Coleman is probably easier and faster to pitch.  The hartford has a Sewn in groundsheet throughout the tent whereas the Coleman does not and which type you prefer is down the personal preference.

I looked at both of these today, as Lukara says the Hartford is a solid looking tent and has a full SIG.  It will take longer to pitch and will take up more room on a pitch because of its shape.

I'm not a fan of SIG's and I really liked the Canyon - the six had one sleeping area which had the living area groundsheet attached to it (does that make sense?!), the other bedroom sat on top of the groundsheet if you wanted it, I think that the 8 has the same configuration but more space.  I looked at the six and thought it was perfect for two of us just using the one bedroom. The Canyon will go up in no time at all and was a very compact footprint.

As said, apples and oranges, personally I liked the Canyon! 

Have ro say I would go for the coleman every time at that price your getting a good deal on the coleman! 

Good quality! very sturdy!

One last look at them both tomorrow before making a final decision.

I would go for a coleman having seen many outwells up at our local display.

The price difference is by no means a quality indicator in this case, probably the price difference is due to the outwell having sig and abit more floor space. Is that worth the extra money to you? thats the decider.

Any creepy crawlies will be in the living area so don't think for a mo they will be a prob, many people prefer not to have a sig in the living area for good reasons.(many previous threads!)

I like to have a sig in the living area, but thats due to camping mostly in scotland! and purely a warmth issue. We have a coleman with full sig which is v warm but has it's probs if packing wet>

Just get one bought and enjoy! the choices are endless
