If anyone around Edinburgh/Lothians/Borders etc is interested, I drove past Camping Ecosse today and they now have their full tent display up in the back field. (Normally would have been up by Easter, but the weather was too bad.) They also have a lot of small and medium tents pitched up in the main warehouse area.

Not sure what models they have in the big tent field, sorry. No time to stop today! But they had the new Vango Oregons and Utah up in the warehouse display and stocked Gelert, Vango & Sunncamp last year. (Plus some other brand, but can`t recall what.)

Camping Ecosse is midway between Tranent and Macmerry, btw, just off the A1 at either Haddington or Tranent.

Hi Val, you've mentioned the Vango Utah before. What sort of a tent is it? MT

I`m beginning to wonder if I`ve got the name of this tent wrong because I can`t find it online. Senior moment, you know? I`ll have to take another little trip up to Camping Ecosse just to check...(and look at all their new tents...)

Yes and no. They`ve opened a new shop in Haddington Place on Leith Walk, for small tents, clothing and accessories such as sleeping bags and camp furniture. The big shop out at Tranent is closing except for a seasonal tent display and the caravan storage area, so I belive.

Can anyone remember as far back as Camping Ecosse being based at Ingleston showground when they went bust? Live in Dalkeith so the Tranent show ground has been a godsend to me if for nothing else than to see the tents erected so that I could then purchase elsewhere as I have always found CE to be a bit on the expensive side. I will be gutted if the Tranent shop is to close as there is just nothing like it in this area. In the past travelled to Duncans at Wishaw just to see tents on display. Is it cast in stone that CE will close?

It was the boss man that told me all the above, but some of the plans were still a bit vague. He was definate about the tent display only being seasonal though.

He was being a bit grumpy about the fact that folk would come, see the tents up and then go and buy them on the internet despite him offering to price match any internet camping shop. As he said, he pays the rent and rates for the big shop and every tent on the display ground represents a loss to him...no, most companies don`t give the shop the display tents. And the vast majority of Edinburgers regard East Lothian as the other side of the world. hence the move. Pity...I live ten minutes drive away, and I bought most of my kit from there including two out of my last three tents.

I bought some stuff from Camping Ecosse when they were at Ingleston way back in the dim and distant.

I bought my Outwell Indiana 6 at camping ecosse and it was the best deal I could see, even the "lowest price guaranteed" Online shops.

The shop on Leith Walk has now closed has been for a couple of weeks! Shame it was very handy for me.  I also remember going to Camping Ecosse at Ingleston with my mum and dad when I was younger and they bought a TT.

when we were considering the aspen, and i had seen it on internet and towsure, we went to camping ecosse to see the tent up, and then intending to buy on internet as it would of been cheaper, once we had seen it and spoke to the boss about it I decided that we would buy from him, as he told us all the info about it, and if there were any problems it would be far easier to deal with, I didnt know about the price match :damn:  this year we were looking for EHU and other bits and bobs, we went through to look and were disappointed at the very few items that they had unaware that they had a shop in edinburgh :damn:  now its shut
