Hi de hi all,

We are off for our first camping trip tomorrow with a 6 birth tent.  I've also bought a gazebo to erect beside the tent to do the cooking/sitting in.  I've bought extra tent pegs and 100 ft of guy rope to tie it down with.  Does anyone know if this will be enough?  I've just seen gazebo leg fixings for sale, that you fill with sand or water, can anyone recommend them?  I've also noted that gazebos come with a warning not to leave up overnight but I see them around on plenty of campsites.  Our gazebo is a mid range one by the way, "medium" if not quite "heavy" duty - oh and it's not forecast to be too windy where we're staying!

Any last minute advise would be appreciated.

Jo

We took a gazebo away when we first started camping.  Weather was beautiful all day but turned very nasty at night - needless to say the gazebo is no longer with us

All I would say, is listen to the weather forcast and if it does start to turn windy take it down.  Luckily our gazebo didn't do any damage to anyones tent or car, but if we hadn't have got up in the middle of the night and got it down fast, I dread to think what would have happened.

Anyway - have a great trip and hope the weather stays nice for you

Hi Jo, welcome to ukcs, and I hope you have a great time. Don't want to be a killjoy but I would say take the gazebo down at night or if you are away for the day. We had always left ours up for the entire trip but  had a nasty experience last year when the wind came up at 4am and we had to take the gazebo down in the pouring rain.It had been a perfectly calm hot, sunny day. The gazebo was fully pegged down and we had extra guylines on it. It was ripped to shreds and the poles had bent by the time we had got it down. Have you ever seen a gazebo flying round a campsite? They take off just like umbrellas. Think how much damage to surrounding tents or caravans a gazebo could cause. i was really scared that ours was going to rip into the next tent where they had young kids fast asleep in the bedroom nearest to us. Their parents were  awakened and we helped dismantling their gazebo, once we had got ours under control.

Oh boy,

That's just what I needed to hear!  I would have quite happily gone sailing off tomorrow without a care (and so would the gazebo no doubt).  NOW I know why they give that warning on the side of the package!

Thanks for the welcome.  I'm already addicted to the site!
