Hi There from a newbie,

I pitched my new tent up in my garden today to get a feel for ho to put it up as i am going away for a few nights next week.

I havent been camping before so i got the tent out of the bag like you would, i just cnat seem to get it back in again. it just seems to be way to big for the bag whatever i do with it.

Any suggestion/Ideas/tips on how to get a 2 man tent back into its bag successfully,

Regards

Wayne

  • fold the flysheet in half
  • fold any uneven ends in towards the middle to make an oblong
  • fold both ends in to middle like wardrobe doors
  • fold in half
  • repeat with inner if this is seperate
  • place inner over outer
  • place poles in bag and pegs in bag
  • put bags on top of inner
  • roll like a swiss roll
  • unroll and roll up again tighter
  • put in bag

I have given up trying to get tents back in bags. The outer and inners go in the bag, folded like bluebottle said, poles and pegs stay seperate.

To lessen the risk of serious personal injury I always pack the tent in the bag supplied and carry the poles and pegs separately.

My Khyam Igloo has a very generously sized bag but other tents I have got are almost impossible to get back into the bag supplied. I finish up using the supplied bag for the flysheet & putting the inner & poles etc. into any old plastic bag.

If I may also ask a related question - do you pack the tent away with the zips open or closed? I once read somewhere that you should always pack it away with the zips open as to fold it tightly with the zips closed might put excessive strain on them. Any ideas?

We have a full inner (an inner first tent) with a SIG. I just make sure there's a gap in all of the doors so the air can escape. Thinking back, I think the tent came with all doors fully ziped up, so I suppose that implies that packing with zips up is fine?

Paul.

Why bother ?  Use the original bag for the tent, guylines, pegs etc and leave the poles separately in their bag (just don't forget them next time you go - bet someone on here has !)

takes a bit of time and a lot of looking stupid rolling around on the folded tent and then again rolling around on it flattening it when it is in the bag - but we always manage to get it in eventually!!

All part of the fun!!

The zips are done up when bought ,if you put up & peg out with the zips open you probably wont be able to close them when you try as the tent shape distorts as you pull it about pegging & guying.
