hiya, just booked a pitch at East Fleet Dorset for witsun, i have a breckenridge deluxe and have been charged for 1 1/2 pitches. They say my tent won't fit a normal pitch, and that i will have to go on a "giant pitch". The tent is 8*8 m, does that sound right?
It really depends what size their pitches are, no?
And don`t forget that though the footprint of your tent may be 8x8m, you have to add another metre on all the way round for guylines making it 10x10m. Plus you want to have room for your car, and you don`t want to be inches away from your neighbour`s tent if he has a big footprint tent too.
Val's right (she usually is!) There is not a standard pitch size in the UK but a pitch can be 10mx10m or even less. Modern tents are getting bigger all the time so site owners are having to think about this and reflect it in their pricing policy. There was a whole thread on that very debate earlier this week!
We too have booked for East Fleet for four nights in August. We have the Hartford XL, when I sent off the booking form I stated that we wanted and elecric hook-up pitch, and I put a note that we have a larger tent and stated which tent we have and that I was not sure if we would needed to book the "larger pitch" it mentioned in their booking form, but the confimation came back as just a normal pitch. I am concerned now that we will get there and be told we needed a larger pitch as I dont think out tent is much smaller than yours?

------------- Life is to short to do the ironing....
We have booked to go there at the end of July and they asked us what tent we have so i presume they must have a list of tents that fit on the standard pitch and a list which are bigger, but thats just a guess, I could be totally wrong which wouldn't surprise me.
We were lucky last year as we were pitched at the end of a row near the lagoon and had plenty of room. A normal pitch was about 8 metres square and our tent is 7.9m x 6.3m but with the guide lines there is not much room if you are in between pitches. Nice site though, and quieter if you are pitched nearer the lagoon. I might even be going there myself August Bank Holiday.
I just put in a booking form that had two tarrifs based on the footprint of the tent...up to 5mx5m, and up to 8mx8m. Now I know that means that many bigger tents would be excluded from this site but it`s a nice clear way to put things, don`t you think? Nothing to do with pitch size, just the footprint and there`s no excuse for not knowing that precisely after all.
(Look it up on the manufacturers website/camping shop website.)

Also will avoid the situation where you are turned away because there are no pitches large enough, then you see a tiny tent on a huge pitch!
