hi,

I am a newbie and we have been given a tent but would like to invest in a new one for our first camping trip next weekend.

We have been looking at Sunncamp as it seems a good make (pls correct me if i am wrong).

The one we have been looking at is the Sunncamp Stratus 8.

We are a family and this seem's like a good option.

Has anyone got any good or bad experiences of this tent?

If anyone has any other good suggestion (without breaking the bank) they would be appreciated.

thank you for any help

I have a stratus 8.

Really pleased with mine and the best thing is that there is loads of space for living/sleeping/storage. Not too difficult to pitch and relatively easy to pack away.

Good value for money I'd say.

Happy camping!

This one is great if you have young kids and want them sleeping next to you. It is really easy to put up, and has one enormous bedroom with a curtain divider, and a big living area.  I had it a couple of years ago, bought it from argos for £150 , reduced from £200 in the sale. I couldn't fault it, full standing room in all areas, and really stable and cosy in bad weather too.

I've had a stratus 8 for 6 years now, its a good tent, very good value for money camping. I have found that the poles are not really strong enough for the size of the tent & I usualy have to replace 2 or 3 pole sections each season - It also has a tendency to get blown inwards in excessive winds due to the guys being too low in the middle part of the tent.I think I would reccomend a large Tunnel tent like an outwell montana (has solid poles) or the vario 500. The tunnel tents deffinately took the bad weather of 2004 better than the domes and thats what I'm going to buy when the good lord decides to blow my stratus away.

agree with above.  Useless in exposed areas. Mine has been knocked down twice, resulting in 16 broken poles.  replaced them all, then next camping trip same again, despite additional guys.

Not enough guy lines, poles too weak,  design inherantly defective.  I would steer well clear !!

I will have to persevere with mine until the end of the season and then get something like a khyam
